Can I buy rims in black?
« on: November 03, 2010, 09:12:34 PM »
Does anyone sell rims that are already coated black?  It seems I can get chrome, silver, even gold, but I have yet to find a way to get new rims in black where I dont have to pay extra for the coating.

Not sure about the black rims. Ebay maybe? Where did you see gold though, I've been looking for those

I believe Buchanans sells their sun rims in blank anodised.
You know you've achieved perfection in design, not when you have nothing more to add, but when you have nothing left to take away.

Thats true, but those Sun rims cost a fortune with an extra $37 on top for the coating.

I have a set of rims from my 75 750K that are pitted but good candidates for powder coating.  Let me check and see what they would cost to powder coat and I'll shoot you a price.

Sounds good, let me know.

Do you know what size they are?

the rims are 185x19 and 2.15x18 stock 1975 CB750K .  The guy who rebuilt my rims offers a powder coat service- $100 for both.  This was quoted to me back in January I'll have to check and see if that price is still current.  I'd be happy to put him in touch with you and you can deal directly.

I've done several sets of wheels and my rough budgeting numbers are about $150-$175/wheel for tire removal, wheel disassembly, media blasting, powdercoating (hub and rim), new spokes (chromed not stainless), wheel building, tire mounting and balancing.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

Thats a little more narrow than I was looking for.  I was planning on running 130 in the read and 100 in the front.

I am running a 120 in the back, it will accomodate a 130 (I chose not to) and a 100 up front.  No worries if you don't want them or need them.
