Topic: Fuel Tank Interchange - Warning! Noob question inside!

Here is my ridiculous question for the day....

I have a '78 cb550K that I've been riding all through the fall...It's been a blast to ride, however, my tank is dented and the lock is broken, and one of my side covers is cracked...

Could I swap on a tank from an '72 - '76 cb500 or cb550k..?

Are the side cover mounting holes exactly the same from the earlier cb500 and cb550K's as the '78 550K?

I prefer the look of the earlier tanks and side covers...so I'd like to essentially make my bike look like an earlier bike, however, I was just wondering if that was actually possible.

Not such a noob question. All 550 K sidecovers will fit, not sure about 500's.
I too, like the earlier gas tanks. I believe Honda changed the tank for safety reasons.

Looks like my '78 will get dressed up like a '74 or so this winter...any excuse to haul out my paint gun!

I had plans of only working on my wife's 400f this winter...it has since snowballed into her 400f, my 750k4, and now the 550k...this SOHC thing is deadly addictive...
