FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

TT- got a question for you... Does the filter have any significant water resistance properties? I am currently running pod filters with outerwear pre-filters (see pic below). I am considering also purchasing an outerwear pre-filter for your veloci-nator stacks unless your filter will do the trick alone. (My bike hates water!)

Also..it runs pretty good right now..I'm very interested to see what kind of power increase it will get. If not quantitative data, I'd at least like to get some butt dyno data and compare.

I currently have my '76 550f with 4into1 exh with a home-made can (glass packed with minimal baffles). I dropped in a 650 cam. 022A carbs (i think??) or 069A..can't remember (can you tell by the pics?) with #115 mains and stock otherwise. Very clean carbs and runs the best it ever has currently. (I'll look at the number tomorrow)

Excited to see what some well engineered stacks can do for her! Thanks for all your hard work on these!!

By the way..put me down for some blue ones. I messaged you (kkaerich) but forgot to specify the color. If all you have is black though, and it would be more than a month to get blue, then I will go for black.  :D

Cheers,
KC

As the only bike I ride in the rain is my VF750F, can't really comment on that.  However, my opinion would be that the filter oil,  placement of the stacks, and the back plate would mitigate ingestion to some extent.

The filter is awesome although I made a new mounting plate to reduce the foam compression with the tubing supports being close on the CB550, I was able to move the filter 18mm away from the tubing  ;D I will be anodizing the new plate black and modifying the clutch cable bracket to relocate the cable entry.

Very nice work.  Only draw back to that solution is it goes against the (current) filter clearance rule.  Basic rule is that you should have, as a minimum, the same internal clearance as the throat ID.  The 550 carbs are 35mm, and the filter (45mm - 10mm filter material) just meets this.  To get it to squeeze in, I drill the holes above the centre line (drops filter slightly), and modified the back plate mounting point on the stacks from stock.  The result adds just enough horizontal clearance to allow for a 45mm filter (without crushing the support wire).

All that said, I will be interested to hear how your revision works.

As for a next order.  The price will have to go up by $25/kit, as all my costs have increased.  The deposit amount will also change from $60 to $100.  So I need to know how many are still interested.   As soon as I get 8 firm orders (with deposits), I can proceed.  Currently all my available funds are going into getting my vintage sidecar ready for this season's racing.  So unfortunately, I can't fund this out of personal $'s anymore.  Also I will only be offering kits, no stacks only in the future.

Thanks!

Your filter set-up is great, I am just picky about the foam compression on my Cafe project and had the capability to make the new designed plate.

I noticed your flat plate holes are off center, I did read up on the min filter to throat clearance before I made the new offset plate. Since I now have a step/offset I made the holes centered to bolt on the filter, this will give back some clearance. I think with the nice wire support and holes been centered will work out just fine.

That's the Tyrrell six wheeler, an interesting bit of engineering in it's day.  Object was to decrease frontal area, while increasing the front tire contact patch area for better cornering grip.  And yes, the F1 Ford DFV filters were the inspiration. ;) :)
