Topic: Non-Ethanol Gas

Been struggling to find gas stations that have good old-fashioned plain old gasoline, without any Ethanol. I fear my CB500 & 750's carbs don't take well to this farm gunk... And that's before we are forced to go to 85% Ethanol!

I've tried Sta-Bil and Star-Tron, but fear they're mainly marketing hype, with little chemical content. At least I can't find any scientific studies that show they work, like Dynamoter tests or carb/engine tear-downs. I pour them in just to feel good, but fear I'm getting snookered.

So here's a fabulous web site that lists that lists gas stations BY STATE that sell non-Ethanol gas, mainly for boats, farm tractors, etc. I just filled up my CBX yesterday at one here in Winter Haven, Florida, and will report if it has any effect. It said 90 octane on the pump, and was a bit steep at $3.85 a gallon, but anything to keep my CBXes running right!

The guys (old techs and racers)@the local Honda shop said they tell people if your vehicle sits more than 2 weeks after work no guarantee.They said they liked the Star Tron better than the Stabil..what they said.They originally tried 30 days but was coming back on them!Haven't tried them yet.Bill

I don't necessarily trust that website. First of all in my state, (Indiana) it lists a BP and a Sunoco that supposedly sell ethanol free gas. Yet, if you check their respective website's, they both state that they use ethanol in their gasoline blends. Secondly, in Indiana it's not required by law {like it is in other states} to label the ethanol content on the pump. So some of those people reporting ethanol free gas stations in my state may just be duped by the fact they don't see a content sticker.

I use Av-Gas...There is a small municipal airport near my home. They have 100 octane with a bit of lead and NO ethanol. Price is a bit more than high test, but well worth it...

The difficult part is to find one that has no ethanol 87 octane. Out of the 9 in my area only 2 have the 87. Those are the only 2 I use.

You can use SEAFOAM brand fuel additive. It keeps any moisture collected by the ethanol in suspension so it does not collect at the bottom of the tank.
It works very well.

Sunoco has racing fuel here in Michigan, 110 octane, leaded.  Phil's Cycle Shop (Honda Doctor) Waterford, Mi. turned me on to it, says he keeps in all his bikes.  Especially good to fill your tank with it for over the winter.  Exspensive ($7.30) but well worth not gumming up your bike.

Second vote for 100LL avgas.  I was getting sooo... tired of cleaning carbs.  Avgas is available at any ariport and the local self serve is $5.50 a gallon.

I have heard old bike buffs dissing Avgas but it will last forever in an airplane tank and is dyed light blue to help you find leaks.
