Topic: Cb550: Clutch arm play?

1976 CB550k:

I have been wretlibg with my clutch adjustment - and finally got it close. After installing drag bars I was worried aboutthe length of the cable, and found a thread that addressed my concerns.

In one post, there was a photo and video showing the guy move his clutch arm (the one attached to the clutch cover) up and inch with his finger.

Mine does NOT move at all, even when the cable is fully slack.

Can someone tell me whether this is part of my issue with getting the clutch adjustment perfect?  And if this is completely wrong, what is it indicative of?  Do I need new clutch? Clutch springs?

What if you disconnect the cable from the arm at the clutch housing? The lever at the housing should drop.
I've just reconnected my cable after doing some other stuff & with the cable off, that lever actually drops down & sits on the engine dipstick.
If the clutch lever moves when you pull the lever on the bar, I can only think there might be a problem with the cable length.
Anyway, have a go at the adjustment instructions in the pics & see how you go.

These are the directions I followed 3 times!  After getting pretty frustrated, some fine folks here on SOHC confirmed that the cable should be completely slack before adjustment (not mentioned in manual). 

I have not taken the cable out of the holder completely, just loosened all the way. I can try that tomw and see how it goes.

The lever definitely works to pull the cam/actuator. My concern is definitely cable length because of drag bars. But most agree there should be a good routing that allows the original cable to work. Just trying to make sure the clutch is doing as it should (or as it's told!)
