Rear sprocket looks fantastic!  The whole thing looks great, but for some reason, I love that rear sprocket....

arg, did i mention i hate cleaning a dirty engine.   I guess ive made progress.   I think im going to strap this engine to my moto rack and take it to the car wash,  use some degreaser and power wash it.  this takes for ever in my garage with a brush and mineral spirits.  I hate to use to use anything strong smelling in my garage.   Im getting ready to build a new house and will be building an external garage, cant wait.

After calling around for quotes to paint my tank and side cover ive decided im def going to rattle it myself.  No way im spending $400-600 on a tank and side cover paint job when im doing a full but low budget restore.

So i started sanding..............and after a little stripper, brushing and sanding its getting there.  I have a couple of very small dents to get out. but all in all the tank is good.  

QUESTION:  do i kreem the tank before I paint or after?  Seems as if i should do it now as to not mess up the paint job.

Yep, I'd line the tank before painting. I've heard the POR15 is better than the Kreem. Also, I'd get a quote from a radiator shop before trying it myself.

You might want to take the rattle can a step farther, and get an aerosol kit from a paint shop. They can mix up good quality paint for you, that you use in an aerosol sprayer. A little trickier to apply, but harder than rattle can paint. (Extra hardener in the clear coat around the gas cap is a safe bet too.)

+1 on letting the radiator shop line it.

I found a guy that will paint my tank & sidecovers for $150.
And maybe cheaper if I paint it Blue, he has that paint leftover from painting a 69 Chevelle.
Nice job stripping the tank!

got the front wheel on with the new tire, now for the rear.   The rim is original, i bought new spokes from cb750supply. Installed new bearings and cleaned up the hub.

rear wheel/tire on, brakes working great,  threw the seat and tank and frankencover on :P just for some motivational pics.   id say a few more weeks and it will be very close to done if i dont hit any snaggs.  fingers crossed.

Ok guys , i did some wiring and have some questions.  Below are some photos. Im starting to get a grip on the electrical.

Im using a K3 harness from cb750supply.com

1st pic is at the coils,  pretty sure the coil wires are connected correctly, the black/white from each coil connect to the same black/white, and the yellow and blue to its matching wire that go to the points. The left 2 wires go to the horn.


2nd pic,  the 2 wires on the left   green/yellow and black, go to the front brake switch.  right?


3rd pic is the battery box area, the 2 connectors left over are (Red connector) Engine Safety Unit and the (white connector) 3 fuse, fuse box for the Headlight, main and tail lights.


4th pic, the left over wires are grey, green and black,  which i believe to be for the turn signal relay.

Of the 3 green, black, and grey, I think you'll find the green female is homeless.

Your wiring routing looks more reasonable than mine. The green ground wire may go where you have it. Mine I put on the lower seat latch bolt but that may not be right. I'll have to revisit my routing next shopday.


That oval cutout in the frame is likely there for a reason.

To reduce weight maybe? That cutout is open on mine and the wires feed under like yours Ron, but the wires could feed through the oval without obstructing anything. The rubber feet that support the saddle rest on either side of the oval.

MC your right about the 3 wires,  you can use a 2 prong relay for the turnsigals or a 3 prong from my quick research.
I think i will run the tail wires like you under the cutout, it does look better. Your bike looks nice, MC, i hope to see it in person this spring. Some day ill do a nice restore on one of these now that i know kind of what im doing.   

 just got a caliper for $15,  needs painted and maybe a rebuild kit, but we'll see when i get to it.


getting so close. once the wiring is finished and its all tested and working, ill get it fired up. then move on to the painting.

I would recommend the wires going into the small recess be placed in some sort of loom to prevent chaffing.
