Here is an update, still got a bit to do, electrical to finish, install the brakes etc plus 2nd rotor and just realized I have to do a little mod to get it to fit. Another mistake I made with the 140 rear tire was buying off center sprockets...I thought I was being smart to get the extra clearance but now I realize that the chain is too just too close the other side....to the rear shock bolt and a swing arm bracket so another error there by me.

I noticed when installing the gear shifter that the bike is in neutral as I thought from assembly...but when I tried changing down or up it is not clicking into gear. There is no chain on the bike and the clutch cable is not installed..... I can free wheel the front sprocket but when I try to change up or down it stays in neutral...Am I stupid?...or am I missing something here?....maybe I'm not thinking it through clearly and I'm panicking for no reason....just visualized taking the engine out again....My thinking is I'm missing something or am I getting jumpy this close to the end.

I'll assume that the little mod you need to make is for brake caliper alignment to the disk. There are a couple of threads on this. Long and short is there are 3 ways. Remove material (about 2mm+) from the boss / shim the upper mounts / machine the pivot (remove about 2mm+). I used the last one, worked great.

Still not there yet but getting close. I was not happy with the rattle can paint on the finned covers so I striped them down and am going to powder coat and grind then polished the fins.

Bike was trailered up to go down the DMV. 3 hours later I still need a CHP vin verification....getting there but still more to do such as the 2nd rotor and some bits and pieces.

That is an amazing transformation. I remember seeing that bike on CL and thinking it was a lost cause. You did some truly amazing work on that machine. I look forward to seeing you around the block!

Is your seat from Airtech? If so, did you use the upholstery pan? Could you post some pictures of how you attached the seat. I also have a '76 F1 and am thinking of using this seat. Thanks.

Thanks Hapakev!, Really appreciate that also I see we drive the same cars too. I have an all white 2008 Trail Teams FJ cruiser. I have large Orange Spotlights on the front. There are a couple of Blue ones I see around town you are probably one of them!

fastbroshi, The bars are Norman Hyde M-bars. Originally I purchased a set of clip ons that I quite liked but I like these way more. You probably know, Norman Hyde is a British manufacturer but I got mine on Ebay here in the US for around $65-$75. There may be other suppliers I'm not sure but if you check in on Ebay you will see them come up.

Also yes, Hwy 1 is not to far we also have have the 74 Ortega jut down the street and lots of other great rides. I am originally from the UK where we had a tiny riding season but here its almost year round really.

The controls are from Mikes XS, he has black or chrome available and there are schematics here on the forum to wire them. I think the chrome worked out really well for this bike. The price was fair, my only complaint is I was not happy with the slightly crooked little stickers on both controls. They are not terrible but if you look at them you can see they are "all" slightly off. I contacted Mikes XS and was very polite as thats my nature and asked if he had access to more stickers and if so could I purchase more stickers. I sent a couple of emails and he would not reply until I mentioned this forum and then he eventually did reply and said the controls were not intended for "show bikes", and he was unable to get stickers and I could return them if I was not happy. I was happy overall but was not very happy with his attitude generally. All in all highly recomend the controls and others on the forum speak highly of Mikes XS service but just beware of the stickers. Of course my bike is not a show bike its a Cafe Racer and the controls look great. You probably will not notice the stickers once installed. For me it just jumped out at me when I got them out the box for installation.

Hi Cevan, The seat is not Airtech. I purchased the seat pan from "Carpy" and I had took a picture of the seat pad style I wanted to a local upholsterer and had him make it for me. I paid about $270.00 which I thought was quite a lot but he did sew in long strips of Velcro on the underside and back. He also put a zipper in and I put in a nice gelpad in addition to the seat foam so it should be really comfortable. I used auto emblem glue to glue down the other side of the Velcro to the seat pan top and back and its on there really good. So now the seat pad tears of and I made a cheesy looking water proof pocket underneath to put my documentation, insurance and an Allen key etc.

The seat pan is attached by 2 Allen key bolts into the frame with the front of the seat pan being held down by the rear gas tank bracket, its not going anywhere and the 2 bolts is plenty......hope all that makes sense I will post some pictures in a day or so. I am sure people have better ways of doing this than I but it worked perfect for me.

Remember: My bike is a 76 750F Supersport but my gas tank is shorter because its off a 1974ish CB750K so I married up the pan to the tank which I believe is slightly further forward on an F frame. I am short guy so it was exactly what I wanted lower and more forward than back!

One more question. How did you install the throttle with Mikes switch on the right side? From the picture it looks like you have throttle separated from the switch, right?

+1 on the Mike's XS switch gear. In addition to the above (& are they stock throttle cables?), where did the seperate chrome (?) clutch perch come from. I saw black ones on the site, but not chrome.

I got the perch on Ebay from a seller called tasclassicmotorsports it is not chrome but some type of semi polished alloy but the levers are chrome and it all blends in quite well. He has quite a few little bits and pieces for Hondas that I have purchased in the past for reasonable prices.

Here is a link to his online store, I see he has a brake perch listed but not the clutch but I think if you contact him he may well have one.

The throttle cables again I got on Ebay or CycleX and I believe the manufacturer is Parts unlimited and the quality seems very good. I am on the lookout for what I believe is called a "throttle return spring" it has a bushing/sleeve around it and pulls down the carbs to assist the throttle return. I checked bike bandit and been searching for a while it seems to be quote an elusive part, at the moment I have a different spring on there that seems to do the job but I would like to find one if I can.

Also the electrical, I just not had the time to finish yet but one problem I have is... I have the new 750K harness and I have a new ignition with key but the only thing that works is the parking light when the key is all the way to the right. Apart from that there is power to the bike with or without the key in or turned...so I need to figure out what causes the power interrupt when the key is not turned on. Even if I unplug the the ignition there is still power to everything....

TO DO LIST

Figure out how to interrupt power to ignition to turn off power to bike

Install led bulbs for front turn signals and finish wiring electrical

#2 carburetor is leaking when gas turned on.

Remove and Powder coat finned covers and then grind and polish fin tips.

Install 2nd front rotor and brakes calipers

CHP vin verification and finish registration

Fire her up, tune up and ride it!

Dang, I was ready to buy controls from Mike, and he is out of stock on left hand. My right hand disintegrated and due to the nature of 70 I have to replace both in the same time since 70 has Hi/Low switch on the right.

Oh well, ebay, here I come.

Down to the CHP for VIN verification and back over the DMV again...Finally got registered and plates on.
