Well we are going to be using the 650 engine at this point and if there is a definite clause that allows the use of the 750 engine at some future point then we can make the switch. There has already been some talk about allowing newer models if they are based on the same technology as the older ones. The 1977 cutoff year was selected to exclude the 4-valve engines released by both Honda and Suzuki the following year. I guess a better way to have done it would be to specify 2-valve fours rather than a specific date. There is really no reason something like the SOHC CB650 would be unfair to race against a 1500cc KZ or GS but as the rules are currently written, it's too new like the KZ750.

Yes the one class unlimited displacement rule will be a problem for the smaller bikes however as this is a new class the point is to see how much participation there will be. If there is enough then the plan would be to divide the Dino class into 2 or 3 displacement categories but first there needs to be a good turnout. I'm sure as the class matures we will see many changes and clauses added in future seasons, possible allowing slightly newer but technologically equivalent machines. Only time will tell. For me, I'm just excited to see that there is at least something now that will get these bikes back on the grid around here!
