4/28 Hmmm....
I'm going to Gerlach, NV (120 miles North of Reno) the weekend of 5/8 for a meeting. If things get backed up or delayed a day or two, to coincide, I'd love to ride the SF-NV leg- on the clock! I love the high desert out there, and every year I drive a truck, wishing I was on the 550 WOT. Who and where is our western NV handoff? I'm getting all hot and bothered just thinking about it.

Supposed to drop in Fernley,Nv. to Greg (Ofreen) who will take it all the way across Nv. and beyond (Salt Lake City?). I don't know who all is planning to go from Bay Area to there (or just Reno) but I say......the more the merrier!!!

I'm definitely in for SLO to SF and 99.9% sure I'll be heading towards Reno as well. I'm sorta thinking of looping some version of the two routes I proposed a day or two ago w/ an overnight stay somewhere in the Tahoe area but stopping short of NV.

Looking like we may meet up in Baker, NV near the Great Basin Park then head NE to the Park City area before taking US40 across CO to Rocky Mountain National Park and Trail Ridge Road then ride the 2 highest paved roads in north America, Mount Evans and Pikes Peak, both over 14,000' before heading for Kansas. Think That will work?? Hell yeah, that's what I'm talkin about

Yeah Jerry....just read Greg was taking 50 instead of 80 across. Pikes Peak eh? 14K ft. elevation. WOW!!! I've had mine at 9200 on Sonora Pass with no ill effects. Brought extra mains just in case (didn't need em'....she pulled like a freight train!!!). Hope you have your F together in time. Bet you're itchin' to ride it also!!!

Fernley!? I didn't think anyone else had ever heard of it. It's the closest town of any size to Gerlach. The closest place to buy ammo and auto and cycle parts. If we can hand off on 5/5 ish I'm in for SF to Fernley. Snoopy Rock, Here I come!

Thanks, 400 miles is a solid contribution! If I am riding solo into CA, I would have to forgo the leg up to Kingman, and do the pick-up from you in, say Wickenburg?

We're still looking good for meeting up with the relay north of Prescott. Depending on when and where the relay is schedule to be we could even run down to Prescott and ride out from their back to Kingman if needed.

a suggestion if no one has thought of it but how about a cell phone list of our team and their base locations in order of the route. maybe even info on where they plan on joining and ending their leg of the relay. might be very helpfull for notifying waiting riders if something comes up.

Kayjohn, it looks as if I will have to get IT deep into So-Cal riding solo. While I was really looking forward to RT 66 and Oatman, I can't see riding down to southern AZ, back up to northern AZ, then back down south again, before heading west into CA.
If I take IT in Wickenburg early in the day, I can have IT in Joshua Tree at the end of the same day.

Welcome on board Stueve! I'd like to hear these North bay ride ideas. I mapped out two possible ways of getting to NV a few posts back, one north of 80 and one south of 80. Personally, I think it'd be awesome to organize a big group ride that encompasses both routes as a loop and camp overnight in Downieville or Tahoe. Any thoughts?

Yep Scottly, unfortunately what looks like a great route on the map just isn’t feasible without enough riders to support it.

I had wanted to get “IT” in Duncan, run up the 191 to Eager, then run over to Show Low and Payson, etc., etc., but what’s feasible for me is just a straight boring shot back home on the 70/60 to Tempe and maybe out to Wickenburg.

And just a little update on the Arizona handoff......my tentative plan is to meet Gregimotis (of the New Mexico team) in Duncan, AZ on Sunday April 24th at around lunch time. Obviously a lot can and probably will change as things start to roll, but at least we've got something to work with. If this does happen as planned, that would have me handing off "IT" to Scottly Sunday night in Tempe or sometime Monday, April 25th in Tempe or Wickenburg.

I'm taking the day off work and am going to map some of these routes out. It looks like unless someone else steps up, the Denvers' Choppers guys might get cut out of the loop. That'd be a damn shame. I'll make a map showing the route from Duncan through Tempe and on to Joshua Tree and I'll also make one including the northern route in hopes y'all can somehow meet up w/ those guys.

I couldn't agree more! Perhaps some more of the AZ guys just haven't had a chance to pop on the board much lately. I seem to recall Shenanigans and RAFster122s had some interest in participating but if it just turns out to be Scottly and I, that is a big commitment for the whole state. $:-\$

Quite a big chunk.
Even if you do work out the meet up for the northern route it might be a good idea to skip Vegas just to keep the danged thing moving. We already have NV covered anyway.

Straight up google maps suggested route.

259 miles. They say 5 hrs. 20 min. maybe more like 7 hrs total. If you are planning on doing this out and back in a day you're a f'in hero!

Without a doubt, the map in reply #196 would be tits! Most of the best riding the state has to offer.....unfortunately it 'aint gonna happen without a few more guys stepping up.

The map in #197 is (unfortunately) the plan thus far. I don't think I'll be able to pull it off in one day. More than likely, I'll be trailering (ouch, I hate saying that) the bike out to Duncan the night beforehand and getting a buddy to follow me back in on Sunday.
