XS850 shocks on a CB175?
« on: December 23, 2010, 01:23:47 PM »
My cb makes about 15 hp and weighs 300ish. The XS makes about 65 and weighs 550. It sounds like overkill for sure, but the cb is set up like a damn marshmellow, so I'd rather be too stiff than what I am now (If I had a dollar for every time I heard that one... :D). The XSs are NOS and the eye-to-eye is the same as my CB and best all, only $45. Any thoughts?

Unless you ride two up, it'll feel like a hard tail.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

You could always get lighter weight springs...Larry

I'm not really sure what to do. I want to upgrade, but it seems, from what I've read, ALL stock shocks from the 70s, and even the early 80s, are complete turds by modern standards. Over-sprung and under-dampened seems to be the name of the game. I hear the "redwings" are decent, but $150, which is bit more than I want to pay. Do any of you know of good eye-to-clevis options that might be a budget friendly alternative? What would you more vintage(read: wise) vintage-bike folk pursue if you were in my shoes?

Better than nothing at only $80.... just be sure to pick the correct eye-to-eye length.
