Oil!!!!...in there???? HELP!
« on: December 23, 2010, 05:27:23 PM »
So I was playing around with my bike today (inspecting)

I decided to take the "dynamo" or i think also referred to as the "stator" cover off and a bunch of OIL came out of there????

Question.....is there supposed to be oil in the alternator area????

THanks

If it hasn't run in awhile, then the scavenge oil pump has not drained the oil in the engine case back up to the tank.  It will drain after a bit of running and return to normal.  I drained a gallon of gasoline out of mine yesterday.  Now THAT is abnormal.  :)

Seems like the consenses is that oil SHOULD be in there for lubrication. The bike hasnt been ran in about 10 years. Trying to get her back to life.

Thanks for all the input!

If you decide to take the stator cover off again lean the bike to the right side with a small block under the center stand. That will allow you to work in the area without oil running out.
