My rain gear is hd as well. Got it as a gift.  Its nice because it stores inside the hood. Nice and compact. If you don't have a full face helmet bring something to put on your face. Rain hurts

I have a full face and a 3/4. I always ride with some sort of face shield. For a long trip where I am likely to get rained on it will definitely be the full-face.

So, I am in contact with the head of security at the RRHOF and awaiting word of their approval for our photo op there. There is no way I would ride without a full face or at least a open face with a shield on the highway. If you think a bug hurts, try a marble or golf ball size piece of concrete kicked up by a truck or car. Actually cracked the shield and would have knocked me unconcious.
As soon as I hear from the Head of Security, I will pass on the info.
It looks like these may be the bikes at the Hall of Fame..... Popwood, MasterChief750, John D, dna_lvel_c7, myhondas , but all and any are welcome to come.

So is the handoff still scheduled for St. Charles, IL?  At a place called Portillos?  Around late lunch?  Just trying to dial in the schedule.  Starting to get serious about cleaning up the bike, syncing carbs etc.  Do we know exactly how many CHI riders are taking part?

I think so. I was going to meet up with him in Dixon. Based on his stated route it appears that we would ride up Route 2 through Castle Rock State Park, then pick up Rt 64 (North Ave) and head east to St. Charles. The Portillos is at Rt. 64 (Main Street in St. Charles, North Ave if you're coming from Chicago) and Kautz Rd. Here's a map: Hopefully this works http://mapq.st/lDbKOZ

Don't know how many from Chicago. Would the Chicago riders chime in and indicate if you are planning to go to Indy. Thanks.,

Why all the talk about riding highways? I thought the point was to kick back, enjoy the ride, and see some scenery? :P

I'm with you. I was planning to avoid the highway as much as possible. Where were you planning to join the ride?

LOL, I saw that too, but it didn't register.

It looks like the trip from Dixon to St. Charles should take around 2 hours, so figure we should get there around noon assuming Don hits Dixon around 10 and we both take a short break after our respective trips to get there.

I was planning on meeting up with you guys in Oregon, IL and riding to St. Charles and maybe to Joliet.  HOWEVER, the weather for me (and the bike) seems too dicey to commit, and I'll withdraw from the event.  DAMMIT!  I wish the weather was gonna be gooder, I'm really pissed.  >:(
In case you're wondering, the bike absolutely HATES getting wet and will refuse to run.

No confirmations so far from Columbus so I'm thinking a couple more days and our Capital might be a scratch. That is, unless, we all need to go to Iron Pony and pick up some rain gear at a good discount! :)

If Columbus is off the route, ideas for a route due north to Toledo? Not I-75. I mean part of the way on the interstate would be OK in the interest of time, but some 2 lane blacktop will be more interesting.

Spades, good news on your parts arriving. How far do you and your buds plan to ride?

Modzsquads here in Cincy is now iffy to do work schedule change, but might make a piece of the trip on Wednesday.

Once you're in Toledo, coming into Cleveland along the lake would make for a scenic ride, check out http://www.dot.state.oh.us/OhioByways/Pages/default.aspx for the route, at least to Cleveland. I plan on riding out to meet you, I think Master, you mentioned Sandusky, but just let us know where and when the photo opp will be whenever it will be!

Here's Danny's map.  Not sure if Joliet is still in the plan but there's probably some real nice photo opportunities at the river's edge.  Joliet is at the bottom of the map.  My wife was trying to make my day (Saturday) with a surprise party.  Darn it.  I'm in for an earlier ride.  I turn into a pumpkin late afternoon.  Her intentions are good and I am turning 50.

Joliet and the Route 66 Speedway are pretty much straight south from St. Charles. I don't see myself riding to Dixon, then St. Charles, then Joliet, possibly in the rain, THEN riding another 6 hours to Indy on Saturday. So I think that St. Charles to Joliet should be on the agenda and then Chicago to Indy on Sunday.

Congratulations on some great riding!

Now, Why is everyone raining on my parade? Poision food at portillo's? Rain forecast for a week away? They said it was going to rain everywhere I went today. I got lucky and followed it, wet roads and spray from trucks, sand blasted in construction zones and sprayed with fertilizer. It was worth it I'd do it again and will.  Now have fun and ride or Godzilla may come to see you!
I haven't puked in a long time.  I'm in for Portillo's :)

Let me know who can recieve the banner, log book and Gee Zee. I diverted the tour to Chicago when it wasn't even on the schedule because I was sure you guys would ride and I wanted to meet you. So let me know the who, the where and the when. Does my ride plan still work for anyone? Sorry if I sound grouchy, I just rode 450 miles and I'm tired.
Ask not what Godzilla can do for you, ask what you.........
Yes Mr. President.  If I'm on my K7, I'll be glad to take the banner, book and Godziller.  Others may be interested as well - Danny?  If I'm not on my K7 (shuffles feet and looks at shoes), I'll try to get there anyway.

Now that it looks like Indy is a Sunday thing, maybe more Chicago-land site seeing can be done on Saturday.

Hell who knows? maybe I'll ride to along to indy, or maybe- if my wife, uh, er. says, oh, what dear?  the credit card company called today? Asked who was all over kansas and missouri spending my money? Gas, Beer, Motels, Beer, rainsuit, more gas? ? I did get the 15% discount at Dicks Honda in Sedalia Mo. It was supposed to rain. I really needed that rainsuit, Gotta go, talk to you later after she goes to sleep!

I gotta warn you young guys in Team Central, you're going to have a REAL difficult time keeping up with that OLD buzzard Don so you'd better be ready. Us old buzzards like to ride!! I only had 60 miles of rain, sleet, hail and gropple in 37 degree temperatures on my final approach to home this afternoon. AND, I thought I was going to run out of gas during all that. Did I mention we like to ride  ;)

Don,

Great to finally meet you and Bud. Just wish I coulda headed east with you guys. Hope you didn't have any problems finding Eydugstr on Hwy 56. Don't be toooo hard on these young inexperienced guys. They just don't know better  ;)  ;D

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll have to brave the rain just so I can be a part of this. And I don't have a rain suit, I'll just plan on getting wet.

What hotel is everyone staying at in Chicago? I want to do the Chicago to Indy leg on Sunday, so I'd prefer to ride over to Chicago on Saturday and stay the night.

Hey Don did you get my PM?

Don, I might be up for meeting you in Davenport. Depending on that the weather dose ::). Right now one site is saying a 40% chance and the other 70% chance for the Quad Cites and Rockford areas.  I  don't ever start off in rain or like to ride in rain but if there a small chance  I might consider it, guess I'll just have to watch the forecast like a hawk. I was thinking of maybe riding from Davenport to the rockford area or where ever you split off for chicago. and then exploring rockford since I never been up there on the bike.

How many people are going to be on the Quad Cities to Dixion / Byron area part of the route? Are still planing to do the schedule you PMed me earlier? what  is the policy if it rains? if we have to adjust anything I would probably be able to do it a differant date too.  Keep in touch. Dan

In NW Indiana, there are rooms for $140 in Munster (ouch) and $110-ish at the intersection 80-94 and Kennedy which is 3 or 4 miles from Illinois.  Those numbers are before discounts like senior ;), AAA, Gov, etc.  Downtown Chicago and Western burbs is going to be pricey... probably higher than NW Indiana.
