CB750F in Tao of Steve
« on: March 21, 2006, 11:46:15 AM »
Hey, this is old news but I just saw "The Tao of Steve" in video that I rented from a local library. At first I was curious because it featured a 1971 CB500 (in reverse) on the cover but the story ended up featuring the 1977-1978 Honda CB750F. Although the story itself was boring (maybe because I sped through it), this 1999 production did win a 2000 Sundance award and two thumbs up from Ebert and Roeper. The most interesting part is when they showed the early Honda Dream (either CA72 or CA77 with early 1960s style tank). Until I saw this, I thought only movies that featured CB750s were "Stone Killer" ( Brown 1971 CB750K1 with dual discs, also featured 1971 CB500 disguised as CB750 for stunt scene) and "Terminator" (Red CB750K1 with no stripes). The "Wild 7" animation also featured a slightly modified early 1969-1970 CB750 in white with red stripes. Were there other filmes featuring CB750s?

Imagine a black & white picture where the black parts are white and the white parts are black.

Is it just the bike that is in "negative" or the whole film?

Tao is a funny flick, thats pretty much how I got my wife, or she got me is should say.

Actually the CB500 shows up only on the dust cover. I was little dissappointed because I only saw CB500 in action in movies only once, in "Stone Killer" as a CB750 stunt bike. The negatives are "reversed" because the master cylinder is on the left side. At first I thought the photo was a CB750 until I took a second look and noticed the different head and first year CB500 instruments.

That was the CA72 or CA77 Honda Dream with early style tank that he was restoring. My CA77 that I'm currently restoring is in worse shape than that.
