I never got an answer to my questions. Would it be better for the people ahead of the AR leg to meet in Hot Springs or Little Rock? Also, would the OK people rather us meet them in OKC or Tulsa? Coke, do you feel like making it a two day ride, or do it all in one? I'm down for either. I've got friends in Fort Smith if you don't feel like putting me up at your place.  ;) I'll have to ask the lady if I can put you up at my house (Fayetteville) if we go to Tulsa. I'm ok with it, but you know how women can be. I've got a wood fire hot tub that's real nice after a long ride.  ;D

I am sure we could stop at my place in Van Buren, the lady of the house has already approved the stay at our house if we stop here.  I don't have any fun stuff like hot tubs though.  I do have a mother in law in the house though.. that is always 'FUN' .  HA HA

Sounds good to me. If we get my buddy's bike going in time (81 cb750 dohc) we'll probably stay at his parents house in FS, but if not count me in for the couch.

I'm still trying to coordinate Barber's, but it looks like the Weekend of April 16th is our best bet.  Gordon (Ilbikes) from SC is talking about coming over, and since he coordinates the VJMC booth with Barber's each year, I hope he can get us a better deal.  Otherwise, I think you guys from MS and AR, should try to set up your own schedule, and then let me coordinate the handoff between AR and OK.  As soon as Barber's is nailed down, we'll finalize everything.

Thanks,
John

Status update: STILL NO F*%$'N MOTOR!!! Supposedly it will be here "next week." Regardless, my repair budget is already way blown and I just found out that my rear caliper needs rebuilding and to have the bleeder drilled out and replaced. That + no motor = looking less and less likely that I'll be able to ride my 750 on this leg, and that sucks. Seriously.

However, I will be riding one way or the other. My KZ400 is in good shape.. just a couple more things to do to it and it will be ready to go. If that ends up being the case I will probably not go any further than Jackson, MS and ride back up the Trace as MidTNJasonF indicated he'd like to do. Might even head up to Bowling Green to meet up with everyone so I can make this into a 4-state trip.

Assuming I don't make it further than Jackson, how does IT get from MS to AR thru LA?
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Hey Everyone!  This appears to be the schedule:

Silverback will get IT from Cvillechopper on April 2nd.
(unless someone from WVA shows up)
On the 3rd, or the next weekend Tugboat, Spanner1 and MidTNJasonF (I'm guessing you all will want to ride together) will meet up somewhere around the TN/KY line with Silverback.  If you do ride together, be sure to pass IT at some point and document.

We need to do Barbers on April 16th around Noon.  I will give this date to Jeff Ray, and find out what all we can do there.  A ride for IT either around the track, or the perimeter road is possible, if the group that has the track rented that day agrees.  Jeff will let me know about this later.  The museum is definitely going to participate in some way.

j4hfr34k (Cody) from MS has volunteered to take IT from Birmingham to Shreveport.  Perhaps Gnat will take it from him and back to Memphis, or up to AR to Coke and/or Radam who can meet up with someone from OK.

We could conceivably have IT out of our patch by April 17.

JTB.
I've got a swell guy i've done business with over the past several years.  Somehow, we got on the topic of Hondas. Here's a bit from a conversation i had with him today. He's got some Honda History!

"Bikewise I was involved in 3 different dealerships in the Chicago area.
A the last one I was part owner and GM.
The first shop was a Triumph and Maico dealer, we then took on Honda in 1963.

Now, as my wife says, I'm in my 2nd child-hood after over 20 years off.
Used to race in the 60's and 70's, Enduro riding in the late 70's and early 80's.
Did everything from Motocross to Flat Track to Road Racing.
Was AMA pro and FIM road racer.
Now still have my original 1971 Ossa 250 Enduro custom dirt bike,
and 1982 Honda GL500I Silver Wing with factory touring package.
So what you are working on and restoring I used to work on and sell.
Some of my friends in the day were Honda Service reps and our shop helped with some of the Tech bulletins.
The last shop was Honda of River Oaks in Lansing, IL.
We helped Team Lansing Motocross with support.
My home track was SantaFe park west of Chicago, a dirt track.
The short track National was held there a few times, and I still have one of the Camel Pro Series banners from the 70's."
anyway...we chatted more about the Relay.  he's interested. here's what he said...

Do you know where in Arkansas they will be?
We are in Northern AR, on Hyw 5 between Mountain Home and Bull Shoals.
Let me know if you can what route they will be taking thru AR,
I have friends involved in the Gold Wing  riders local chapter, the Retreads, also Road Riders for Jesus club.
They would be interested in hearing more, as might our Chamber of Commerce and newspaper.

He's got contacts, and If your area wants more involved, and some press, here's how to get in contact with him....

I'm in Fayetteville AR. Not too far from Mt. Home. I'm thinking of meeting up with the other riders in either Little Rock or Hot Springs. It doesn't really matter to me which place we meet, but I really can't make a rout plan until someone ahead of AR tells me where they want to meet. I'd say meet in Hot Springs, then we can take hwy270 to Ft. Smith/Van Buren. Probably stay the night there. Then I think we could take 270 all the way to OKC. I haven't been on that part of 270 before, but I think it goes. If anyone has other suggestions I'm all ears. I know the "Pig Trail" is real popular, but it may be a little out of the way. Like I said though, it all depends on where everyone wants to ride.

Radam,  Looks like we are going to be getting IT around April 17th, but may have to go to Memphis to get IT.  If we go to Memphis, I guess we could do US 64 across AR.  kind of an old school road.. not as cool as rt 66 but old school anyway

My plan is to ride from barbers to vicksburg saturday, and from vicksburg go over to la and cut up to little rock. Is someone else bringing IT from barbers to Jackson? If not I can take IT from barbers  all the way to little rock on the 17th in the afternoon.

Little Rock on the 17 then sounds good.. we could do 10 all the way from LR to Greenwood i think.  What do you think Radam?  Then we could hop on OK 9 and take it all the way to Norman.  I have never been on 9 so not familiar with the road but it looks like it takes a nice meandering trip over to Norman OK.  Give it a look and offer other suggestions.  I don't know anything about most roads in OK.  I have been on 10 in AR before and it is a nice road.  we could even veer off a bit and go from 10 up to Mount Magazine lodge and then over to AR 22 and follow it to AR 96 then down to Greenwood and over to OK 9.  Of course if we stop at Ft.Smith/Van Buren we will have to modify a bit and might want to take a diff route.  I am really looking forward to getting my bike fixed up and tested.  I am getting the seat recovered next week and doing some more work on it this weekend.

Ar10-Ok9 sounds good to me. I too know nothing about OK roads. The wife has decided that she wants to try to make the trip with me, so the less interstate the better. She doesn't like to go fast. Are you still down to stop at your place for a night? Do you plan on staying a night in OKC? I'll be taking off work on that Monday, but I'm not sure if I can swing two days off. I'll probably head home after OKC that same day. It all depends on what the wife wants to do.

Staying at my house is fine, you and your wife are welcome.  I might stay over in OKC.  I will be taking days off too but I need to use or lose them.  I guess it depends on just how quick we get to OKC/Norman that morning.

I don't know if it will be the morning of the 18 but it should be some time the 18th.  If we go I-40 I am sure it would be morning but I don't think I want to take the interstate and Radam didn't seem interested either.  does IT need to be there in the morning?
