Honda scooter spotted in Thailand.
« on: December 31, 2010, 10:43:16 PM »
Didn't know where to post this but thot you guys might appreciate the sighting.

This thing was parked along a jungle road on Ko Samui Island, Thailand at a local "restaurant".  It belonged to the owner of the place.  He didn't speak any English so I couldn't get the story on this thing.

I saw about ten 60's Honda scooters, actually.  This is by far the nicest. None of the others had been restored or were in very good condition.

I started thinking about coming back...rounding them all up and shipping them back.  To these people they are just old motorbikes not rellics.

These arent really my specialty so i couldnt really ID it.  Engine #8088668

Nice one! But I wouldn't call it a 'scooter'.
Look like a Benly to me, maybe a CA92 or a CA95.

Agree on the id as a Benly, except it likely wouldn't be a CA92 or CA95.  Note that it has front turn signals, except that the rear ones seem to be missing or modified to the carrier.  The "CA" models came without turns and were unique to the USA, so more likely to be a C92 (125cc) or C95 (150cc) Benly that has some "custom" mods done to it.  (E.g. the exhaust, seats, and front fender trim)

We have quite a few of those on the roads here in SF.  I counted more than ten in a 45 minute walk a couple months ago.  I actually had one I was planning to restore, but decided to just sell it instead.  I've heard they were produced until pretty recently in SE Asia.  It makes it easy to get parts for them since there are still so many owners/riders.  Parts are cheap too, especially as compared to our SOHC4s.

Who knows what Honda made for the Asian market :-\ :-\. It sure is a Benly but not as we know it.
It has an early frame but with  late model tank and down pipes.
It has a 2 bearing crank like the C95 that went to the UK and Canada but has a C92 cylinder head, an odd ball model or a motorcycle made from parts from several models, anyones guess.

No rush Lar, he's got no money :( and I can't afford to bail him out. I'll supply the bike but I'm not paying for him to ride it. He's still not learned to ride a bike yet and don't think he's in any rush to do it.
