Tired of the rust, VTX 1300 tank being prepped for CB750K

I grew tired of the rust problems that i inherited with my free CB750K8, so after much deliberation and a pack of Camel Wides (no, i do not condone smoking at all), my much beloved SOHC mechanic gave me a beat up VTX1300 tank for me to do whatever i please with....here is what is happening thus far....

I pulled off an old gas cap from a local salvage yard, as well as a generic petock (yay, dont have to rebuild anymore) and as soon as the bird on the other side is done, i will be clear coating the entire tank for mounting.

Like i said, i know this isnt for everyone out there, so i imagine the educated bunch will respect the work done and the others will just flame away...

That is awesome. I thought about doing the same kind of skull design for my bike. what kind of paint did you use for it?

Not my style but I appreciate your creativity.  Is it all hand painted?  Does the tank actually sit on with no modifications?  Larry

The paint is regular acrylic paint, all hand painted.

There are modifications needed on the rubber tank holders, they need to be spaced out an inch or so to fit the wider vtx tank.

And flamers, educated or not, are still flamers, lol.....

I love the paint.  I have significant doubts about how the tank will look on your 750 given its shape, but I am looking forward to seeing some pics of the end result and being proven wrong.

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

I don't know what I like best, the paint on the tank, the sticker on the sidecover, or the stains on the driveway.

Great work - that tank looks a lot better on there than I thought it would.  Is that a wider-than-stock aftermarket seat?

Love the paint (especially the skull), not a big fan of the style of the tank on the CB...  My opinion...

I am not sure about the seat, as I got the bike for free and that is the seat that came with the bike.....

Well you are definitely going to gain some tank volume.  While the paint isn't my cup-o-tea I do give points for creativity.  Odd that you painted the tank with the badges in place.  Was there a reason for that?  The VTX eagles are held on with 3M tape and can be taken off without damage to the tank and leave no mounting blemishes.  A piece of dental floss used in a sawing motion from front to rear between the tank and badge cuts the tape loose.  Goo-Gone cleans up the remaining goo.

I left them on as i wanted to give a three dimensional appearance to the wings of the sparrows on the side of the tank......
