Oops - I lost the post! Tank hinge pins.
« on: March 22, 2006, 08:13:28 PM »
 :-[

I lost my link to you guys who wanted me to make tank pins.
I've been on the (business) road for a couple of weeks, just getting back to making the pins. I'll post here when I have them. Thanks to all who've helped me get dimensions, pins, etc.

These will have several options where you can clip on the C-clips: either inside the cap's "wings" (for out-of-sight, hard-to-remove, gas-is-safe installations), inside the tank's "arms" (like on the CB350-2) and outside the cap. This is the easiest to install, and beats the cotter pin or TIG wire look. If someone really wants your gas, and your gas cap actually locks, they'll need a pocketknife or tiny screwdriver to get it with this option. All pins will have all grooves for the C-clips, so you can pick at install time.

The shaft is stainless steel (314) and the C-Clips will be, also. No sparks, you know...

Sorry for the delay. Spring is coming.....

Somebody posted recently a link of a japanese company that is selling lots of NOS. I remember the cap and latch hinge pins were available.

Any tips on how to get the tank latch back on?  I can't seem to figure out how the little spring goes in under the latch....

The spring is a nasty bugger to get positioned. On mine, I put the spring under the latch and then positioned the latch as close as I could to the pivot points without comprssing the spring right off. I tilted the latch to one side to get the pin started through on that end. As soon as the pin was engaged through the center of the spring, I applied pressure to line up the other pin hole. A small flat screwdriver is also helpful to push in on the spring end that rests against the tank. You can slide the screwdriver in under the latch as you work the pin through. It seems like this takes one more hand than you've got, but be patient and try a few 'dry runs' and you should be able to do it with ease.

....and do all this while you are in an enclosed space...the shower maybe...so when the
spring zings you wont have to dig in the carpet for it...been there..done that.   ;D

Also applies to the spring in your kick starter arm.
