Engine Paint Schemes - do you have a picture of yours?
« on: January 11, 2011, 02:23:22 pm »
I have been contemplating the paint scheme for my engine, and I've been looking at many many photographs of engines in the build threads.  To be honest about it some engines, even after cleaning and painting, don't really grab me.  Some however are really good looking and add a lot to the bike's overall appearance.

There are lots of ways to paint engines, some are blacked out, some are all silver, some match the paint job color, some are a traditional mix of black and either chrome or polished aluminum.  Painted cylinders, blacked out heads, blacked out cylinders, painted heads, painted cases, polished cases, variation after variation: Many are well thought out but I still don't know what mine should look like so I'd love to see a picture of yours.

Show me - show the world - your engine!

Well Kong here's mine anyway, all silver (well kinda more grey than silver). My bike is still a work in progress, I had planned to paint it black (under mick jaggers instructions ;)) first and polish the crank covers but I'll probably keep that paint scheme for another bike. Looking forward to this thread though to get some ideas for my next project ;D haha lol

Here's mine.  Stock colors but with polished aluminum covers rather than brushed and clearcoated.

This is a good thread topic! I am contemplating my scheme as well. Hey Kong check out the Cycle X website. They have pictures posted of dozens of engines with just about every paint scheme you can think of. My case and cam cover are black so I just need to decide on colors for my cylinders and head. I have so much black going on I am thinking at least one needs to be silver to add some contrast.

While black or dark engines look killer when fresh, doesn't take them long to start looking pretty grungy. I've done a lot of customs and learned my lesson on painting motors black. I now stick with silver. Really doesn't show off the dirt near as bad and looks good.

If anything, I'd like to take the time to smooth out the engine cases and give it a light polishing, Not show polish but more than the rough cast appearance.

Polished covers and duplicolor aluminum for the block.

Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

I really like this bike. The engine really completes it, imo. Not a great picture though.

I dig how the covers match the frame, I'm considering painting some of my covers a titanium/graphite color to compliment the off white frame I'm planning...

So what kind of paint does everyone use on these and how well is it holding up to the elements? Really considering painting my motor while im doing the rebuild but don't want to mess with it if its just going to chip and not look so great after a few months unless I get them powdercoated or something.

That's Joey's motor, he is a forum member here.

As Brother Stev-o already pointed out that is my work and I am a member here, the link that Brother Brettster26 posted is to the gallery off of my website. The website is www.dwmsracing.com if anyone would like to see more photos.

That black and gold engine was done in Duplicolor Gloss Black and VHT Gold. Here is a photo of it.

These are photos of my current personal engine and If anyone likes the colors they are VHT Titanium Silver Blue, VHT Burnt Copper, flat black, and I will be painting the header in the last photo red. My build thread is http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=80234.0 if anyone would like to look at more photos of it.

Hi Joey, is there more than one  VHT Gold ..?  How close in person is it to the gold that Honda used on the 1100R engines.?
