I used 600 -> 1500 then "knowsnothing" buffed it out to the shiny finish. The buffing by knowsnothing was really the key to getting it looking so good. I am guessing he used a circular buffing wheel  - maybe he will chime in with the process.

If you're polishing the tank and then clear coating it expect to lose about 20% of the gloss to it. It's the nature of the beast due to the refraction of light through the clear coat.

I like the mopnglow idea. I have a 76 that I got with a bare steel tank that I was thinking of painting but I think I'll leave it. I just have to come up with side covers of some sort.

Old bump, but doing this to my tank now. I took a brass wire wheel to the tank to get most of it down to bare metal. I need to get the brushing in the same direction, which scotchbrite pads would you recommend? Then just a standard matte clear coat?

Thanks
