zx7 trouble shooting
« on: March 26, 2006, 06:45:39 pm »
ok, i know its not my beloved cb500... but racing season is in full swing, and this (#*$&%_#_) thing wont run right.  bit of history...
'94 kawasaki zx7, 20 over on the cylenders, stock carbs, full ss2r vance and hines (anoyingly loud) exhaust. bike runs great 1st, 2nc, gear, shift into 3rd, and it dies like the cb500 when gets a cloged fule (something) now after screwing with the jetting and buying a jet kit, and getting the firing order all screwed up. (any help on that would be great) i assume its 1243? anyway, i still have the same problem, no matter what i do to the jets fuel/air or float levels. any ideas? thanks joe

Cant help on jetting its way too new for me but the firing order dont matter as if works the same as the 500 i.e. 1 & 4 together, 2 & 3 together

As far as I know, almost all modern fours use a firing order of 1-3-2-4.

Was it running right previously? Check tank cap vent. Bigger main jets? What colour are spark plugs? Is cam timing right (tensioners have'issuses'may be a tooth off) Is no.3 cyl big end OK? All I can think of offhand.

hey,
thats how i have the firing set up, figured it was the same with all in line fors, havent checked the timing chain or gears, vent hose is ok, bigger jets, and increaced needle height do little to solve the problem. no it was not running right before. and the plugs are black and wet! thanks

plug wires from coil go to 1&4 cyl other coil to 2&3. 'black box' works it out
