Can I get some drive chain suggestions for CB550F ?
« on: January 24, 2011, 03:33:28 PM »
Hello,

Looking for a bit of help.  Have a 77 CB550F with 17t front and 37t rear, 100 link.   Looking for suggestions on a new drive chain.  (this is my first cycle with a chain - all my others are shaft drive)

Want one in a brass color for aesthetic reasons.

Will the TSUBAKI 530 QR Pro-Gold work?   It's not an O-ring type is it?  Heard bad things about damage caused by O-ring chains.

This is the one I've been considering:

Sure could use some direction.

Thanks,
Mark aka eworth

I got trapped using an oring chain on mine, caught it just in time before it went too far into the crankcase.
I went for the Tsubaki chain for the same reasons as you. Works fine & looks great.

Cool.   I hear Tsubaki is a quality chain.  (should be for the price)

Were you able to find one at a decent price?

Seems to be pretty expensive.  Cheapest I've found is like $93.00 w/o shipping.

Count your blessings, I got mine straight from Tsubaki shop/distributor & paid $160  :-[  The price you pay for what you want at the time I guess. I should've bought it online.

OOOOOoooooooo, that's a bunch-a-dough.   :o

Maybe bout $105 w/ shipping isn't that bad in comparison...

Will probably go with the Tsubaki.

If you could live without the "brass for aesthetic reasons" you could also knock about 70 bucks off that price.

Gordon,

I'm game.   Can you suggest a specific quality chain?

Gordon,

I'm game.   Can you suggest a specific quality chain?

I'm not big on specific brand names, but I usually end up getting Tsubaki.  Just not the fancy nickel or brass kind.  Best price in the past has been from www.loudfastugly.com, but I haven't checked with him lately, so not sure on the current price.

Look around, though, and definitely look through the list of websites in the FAQ.  For a 530, 100 link, non-oring chain, you shouldn't have to pay more than about $30.
