I think your build looks very good and I like the choice of frame color and I like the black engine with sanded fins .

It's funny about which builds generate a lot of responses. There seems to be a lot when someone is rebuilding a motor and posts a lot of pictures; it tends to get the blood flowing. I get very few on mine. I posted a thread this weekend on how I am building my bump seat using the stock unit and an old gas tank, and figured that it would see some feedback. But it didn't. I do it more for me and posterity. Q's build is great and there are good pictures.

Yours, Lucky, has a lot of hits with relatively few responses. Maybe that means that people think you know what you're doing??? I think we are just living vicariously through others projects. I am also on another forum because of my V-Star and they do not have a project area, but then very few of those guys take their bike to the frame. Not even a tenth of the activity either.

Maybe people get tired of saying "nice job man".

lol, thanks guys, but I think I just got a bunch of pity replies.

So you know, I just looked through my old posts and noticed I really didnt post many engine pics. I posted pics of the engine disassembled, but I never posted the pictures of the engine half built, like pistons sticking out and such. I dont think I even took the pictures. I didnt even take pictures of the pistons.. which were really cool. I didn't think anyone cared since there really isnt a lot of stuff in these engines.

In case anyone cares, I used the dynoman/je pistons

uhg, probably awhile. I would be happy if it ran by fall.

Besides millions of small pieces that still have to be purchased/made, it also needs a wire harness made, the engine assembly needs to be completed (which includes trying to find a 1977 rocker cover), engine needs to be timed (slotted cam gear which I dont know how to do), I havent touched the carbs at all...

So I have come to the conclusion that I need to do something to make sure the chain doesn't slap the swing arm. When the shocks are fully extended, and chain fully taught, there is only around 3/8" clearance between chain and swing arm. I think I will need put some kind of nylon chain slider or something.

If you don't have ready access to material to make your chain guard, you can cut a piece from a dollar store plastic cutting board - it apparently works quite well.

Thats a good idea.

McMaster has a lot of nylon sheets/bars http://www.mcmaster.com/#nylon-sheets/=ga271m

The original chain gaurd mounts are still intact, so I figured I can probably make a mount for the nylon that attaches there.

Those could probably me modified too.

Chopper guys have been using skateboard wheels to pick up the slack in their mile long chains for years. You could probably rig up something similar to keep it from slapping.

I spent the last couple of nights working on the original carbs. They are awful, this will likely take me a very long time.

I think I need to find an alternative, it may be too much of a time investment to be worth restoring these. But I have no intention of buying a $750 set of CR29's...
