Need opinion on motor mount
« on: February 05, 2011, 12:38:54 PM »

Removed my carbs to rebuild and saw the ground strap on the inside of the frame then saw the broken
mount. Anyone else seen this? Can the bike be ridden safely like this? Would you have it welded or find a set
of cases? It's a 74 CB750.

The engine needs to come out either way.  Now the question becomes which is cheaper/easier, having it welded or building up an engine in new cases.  Is the engine a solid runner?  Any other issues with it that would indicate a rebuild is due anyway?
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I have the same problem on a spare K1 motor..........It will have a welding attempt next winter but I also have spare cases if it won't work. My welder says it may be easier to remove the mount from some broken cases and weld it to the good cases.............I need to repair mine because that motor has a title!

I bought the bike this fall. I did get it running the motor sounds good. I figured I would have to strip it down and preheat the cases to weld them.

I have had one of those welded before without any issues except for the $60.00 out of my pocket. Motor was out of the frame when done.I have heard of people also in some cases just JB welding it and the mounting bolt that runs through there will "tighten" it up when the nut is reattached and tightened down good.Usually those can get broken in an accident or when removing the engine with to much force, any idea how yours broke ??

The PO bought the bike when it was 1 year old. He installed a 78f motor and lost a chain going down highway broke the cases reinstalled the K4 motor. My guess is the mount then. It's broken at an angle and slides off to side tightened.

Yeah that is a pretty tough angle on that one.I think though a good welder and some cash would get her fixed.
