Topic: Installing a cafe racer seat

Hey guys ive been looking at the seats and i wanted to what do u need to do a cafe seat if i bought one like the fiberglass ones i see around. I see theres an ebay mounting kit that looks like it builds a support for the seat like a floor is this needed or just use the seat?

If you have the original seat, you can use the same bolts, hinges & lock, If you don´t, search e-bay or  parts stores.
I got one for my CB 400 F and only needed foam, upholtery, and a few grommets, everything else was from the old seat.

i cut the lock right off my bike with a grinder made it smooth painted primed the metal.

then i used the rubber original seat grommets as spacers for my cowl and just contact cemented them on let them sit over night and slid a bolt with a big washer through the seat and bolted it down with a nut and washer on the other side. my seat pad covers the bolt and is held down by Velcro

Is there a fiberglass one that doesn't require cutting and welding the loop to the frame?

thats the seat i used

then i put it down over top of the original turn signal brackets drilled some whole in the sides and used the brakets to hold the cowl and turn signals on.

i dont see any purpose in the hoop unless you are planning on tucking everything under the seat

I should be able to use the stock hardware. I didn't have those pieces so I fabricated some. Mainly to give the seat nice support.

i just cut the hinges/ lock off and use heavy duty velcro to hold the seat in place..

Thanks guys. That's a relief. I'm going to hunt around a bit and see what I find.

I ended up cutting/grinding off the rear fender mount and the hinges for the stock seat, welding some tabs to the frame with nuts, building an aluminum support for the fiberglass seat with shims and rubber pads that rest on the frame, and using 4 flush headed allen bolts to bold the seat and support to the frame. Then the seat pad velcros to the fiberglass seat covering the bolts. It was a pain to get everything lined up and shimmed and then to remain that way through welding and epoxy and all that crap. It came out perfect but if i had to do it again i think i would try different methods.
