Trouble seeing pics at work
« on: February 14, 2011, 03:10:58 PM »
So I just started a new job and it should be decent, but I can't see any embedded pictures that people link on the forums. Anyone know of a good work around?

Dont worry, I dont work at the DoD or anything. I'm not endangering lives.

probably blocked by a fire wall... or something of the sort. if you can get in good with IT, most of them will release certain sites for certain employees.

If you are using IE, go to Tools> Internet Options> Connections> LAN Settings> remove all check marks> OK> OK> Refresh the page.  You may need to close all instances of IE and try again.  They may have a web washer that is blocking those images.  It does not have to show a proxy path as it is stored in the registry.  It may do this everytime your IP is renewed or changes.

I might be talking out of my azz too!

Your new employer is probably being extra cautions given your propensity to porn.

I'm just saying.

I think it might be at the source of the connection to the computers. Its at a call center. I know a couple years ago when I worked here, a few people had proxies setup.

We all have the same problem.
It's a prerequisite of the SOHC4 site.

take out those check marks and let me know what happens.  We have a web washer and that is how I get past it and show others how to up at work.  If you have SiteAdvisor, I think the Enterprise version can block these as well as it can block domains.

What call center is it and what do you support/sell?  Hard to imagine a call center in your neck of the woods.  I know Dell is somewhere around Austin.

well it didnt work.

I work at Telenetwork. its a call center that provides tech support for rural DSL companies. its pretty terrible. No one calls without being angry and stubborn. But jobs are scarce here. Unless you wait tables. and I dont even want to try that. I get a bit pissed off when people treat me like crap. My best friend makes a lot of money doing it but he also complains a lot.

I worked here in 08 and 09 and it wasnt too bad pay. They have a new program here that makes troubleshooting a lot easier and they now pay us to sell packages. My ex roomie made 25$ an hour last month just from selling stuff. so hopefully I can make a million dollars before I go to europe in may and retire in greece with my new greek wives.

Oh well, sorry it did not work.

I did external tech support on the phone for about 6 years and it is horrid.  Supported HP, AOL, Dell, Verizon, Linux printer support for some sandwich delivery place out of Florida.  AOL support was a joke, they did not want you to fix anything.  They wanted me to transfer them to someone who could sell them something.  If the next agent picked up the phone and the user was still on the line, I got an extra $1.  Everyone got transferred, lol.

Lot's of mad screamers with external support.  Got tons of stories.

Then I found a real job.  Internal support for a major security company.  Still there 7 years later with no plans of leaving.  I was the global Helpdesk Lead for about 4 years and now I do internal desktop support.

I don't like supporting family or friends, lol.  I do enough of support at work.  I have turned a good part of my family onto MACs.  The family support for them has come to a complete halt!  YaY

Well, back to my tank emblem painting.  Hope it turns out worth a chit.  ;D

I was working at a yogurt shop but the management is some local goonstress that doesnt know a thing about managing 18 year olds. Ive been working since I was 15 but my manager was a 18 year old girl sleeping with the store managers son. So I was delegated to on how to mop a floor and wipe down counters... terrible pay for monkey work.

this one I survived for a year before, and I am going to europe for a couple months in may so it might only be short term. I just need money for beer and food I guess. and when I have too much free time my grades slip. I have to have a tight schedule or I start slacking.

I made the switch to mac when the aluminum bodies came out. I would prefer never to use a PC again, but thats not very practical. I dont know too much about windows 7. For my trip I am thinking about getting a netbook to use during the class portion of my trip.

Maybe you can give me some recommendations there. So far I have been looking at the Asus 1215N that has the ION gpu with discrete graphics. Its a bit pricy, but I would like to use it as an HTPC when I get back. I'd like something with a larger keyboard than most 10inchers because I have pretty big hands. I havent looked at buying a PC since my last one in 06 so I am out of the loop here.

I need to start thinking about a new macbook soon. The Air is pretty sick, but that price tag is a bit outrageous. Ill probably end up with the base Pro, but not until I get a real job after/if I graduate in December.

This ones warranty is up in August and the aftermarket memory I installed is crapping out. Needs a new battery soon also.

I gave up keeping up with that stuff years ago.  It became a lot of useless knowledge.  Specially since I got into Macs and got an XBOX.  I got tired of upgrading a PC to keep up with the games.  With consoles, all that is over and it is much cheaper.  They have to make the game fit the console.

I mostly built machines with ASUS boards and an ABIT once in a while.  I hear the ASUS laptops are perty good.  I do not know if the quality has changed but ASUS was the manufacturer to have in my day.

I bet a yogurt shop pulls in some weird snobby uptight people.  ;D

yeah its pretty depressing buying PCs and components for them. Theyre outdated in 6 months. Especially for gaming. I use my xbox for streaming (Vuze is great for that) and for netflix. I wish I had more time for games. my GT is Jmann85 btw.

This netbook needs to be somewhat disposable as I it might get stolen. I'll keep looking, and hope that a new one doesnt come out the month after I get it.  ::)

Yeah, get an average major brand computer with a warranty and buy an Xbox or PS3, any cutting edge PC will be outdated to play the next 'must have' PC game within 6 months.
