Yes another brake thread!!!

so i got a Russel SS brakeline. but i over torques the fitting and cracked the fitting  anyone know if it can be fixed???

second question.
where can i get the banjo bolt that fits into the caliper so i can ditch the steel solid line and attach the braided line? is it a normal banjo bolt the same size as the one on my mc?

If its the end fitting on the Russell hose you bought, then no, you can not fix it - the hose is trash.  If you mean you broke the adaptor fitting, then you'll have to replace it.  They run about $10 for a pair.  Banjos are available in a number of standard bends, just pick the one you want.  Of course if you are using a Russell hose there is no reason to have a banjo at the caliper at all, just hook the hose up to it directly and save yourself ten bucks.

Whether you choose to use a banjo at the caliper or run an in-line fitting, it needs to be a 10x1.25.

The advantage of using a banjo in the correct orientation and angle is to keep the brake line away from the spokes since the caliper inlet is angled toward the wheel. However there is a plastic or rubber?? seat in the bottom of that hole which needs to be removed in order to get a banjo in place.

Then the length of the bolt may become an issue. All of these things can and have been worked around by other members.

On the other hand, the hardline serves a purpose as well, in removing lateral pressure on the brake pivot arm therefore reducing potential brake drag.

I have seen another option and one I considered myself and that was a brakeline with a short hardline attached which I believe is used on some 750's (F's maybe??). Tintop used them on his 550 project and I believe they were custom sourced from slingshot cycles run by member pampadori?. Look in the for sale thread. It's one of the stickies.

it didnt snap off its just a hairline crack i can still tighten the other fitting into it. was kind of hopeing someone might say that i can just take it somewhere and get a new fitting put on

If the banjo or other fitting which attaches to the brake line is damaged, get a new one, about $10. If the end of the brake line is damaged where it connects to the fitting, get a new one, about $30-40.

Consider this,

I'm no expert in fluid dynamics or hydraulics, however I do know that brake lines are hydraulic and opperate under pressure. If there's one part of your bike you want to have total confidence in and know that it is done right, mightn't that be your front brake?

Spend the money. Fix it right. It's not just you out on the road.

I did away with the hardline on my 78 and I suffer no drag or anything. If the line is routed well, I doubt there is much force placed on the caliper by the line.

i know your right but was wanting to see if there was a solution to it the line was free and it is so nice that i had to ask oh well guess il buy another one
