Melted Ignition Switch Wires
« on: February 16, 2011, 10:17:14 pm »
So my bike suddenly started becoming alive while the switch was in the off position. All the lights would go on, and the bike could be started and run.  If i moved the ignition switch around the power would die, and the switch would work properly.

I removed the switch thinking maybe i could do a simple rewire. After inspecting, the red and black wires were melted together most of the way up.

The ignition switch is new, so Im guessing I have another electrical issue

Please help!!!!!

is the plug badly melted? mine had degraded badly and the contacts would touch and arc slowly melting the wires over time. Is this possibly your situation?

no both sides of the plug was fine, and the outside jacket was fine too ... just the wires were melted

I think Honda man has done it again

Seems to be a rash of bad ignition switches lately. If all these guys could post what brand they are if they know that would be great.

the only brand i was able to find that was plug and play was the EMGO brand.
as honda man explains the that linked thread above, the wires in this switch are not rated for the correct amp.
also the correct ones were not manufactured after 08, which is why it seems like everyone is having this issue...

hondaman posted a work around, or there is always ebay
