750F3 530 conversion?
« on: February 18, 2011, 06:52:22 PM »
hi, i have searched through the archives about converting my f3 motor to a 530 front sprocket however it is a little hard to find a definitive answer. i have gather that there is no actual front conversion sprocket. so i am under the understanding that a regular 530 sprocket say from a 76 750f would work. do i need a spacer in there somewhere? anyone know what size if so?

what i am working with here is a 78 F3 motor in a 76F frame with a 530 rear sprocket. any help or clarification would be appreciated. thanks

Hi.  I have the same question you had back in Feb.  I'd like to covert a '78 750K.  I wondered what you ended up doing.

well, i found an ebay ad for a 530 conversion sprocket, however,  looking at the dimensions in the ad, it appeared to be the same as any 17 tooth 530 sprocket, i ordered it anyway. well, there is nothing conversion about it. its just a 530 sprocket. the difference i think between the stock sprocket and the 530 one is that the original has a raised middle on the inside, where as the new one is raised in the middle on both sides.(basically the new 530 one is a little wider in the center). my plan was the fit a washer in the gap between the shaft and the bolt that holds the sprocket on. i will get a new bolt that is just a little longer too, just in case those couple threads matter. its kinda hard for me to really comment on this setup as i have not put it all together yet, probably not gonna need a chain if i dont have any brakes yet. but when i get it together, i will post again.

I installed the 530 front sprocket with washer as  you described.  The washers I found that were about the right thickness and outside diameter (so they fit inside the sprocket center hole) had too larger an inside diameter.  So instead I got a couple of thinner fender washers which had the right O. Dia.  and drilled out the center so they fit on the screw.  I was going to use two stacked on the screw, but that was too think when assembled and I ended up using only one.  I think it probably would have worked without using any at all.

there are sprockets with no hub on one side that can be used too the one hub they have goes on the inside toward the motor

Jake,  When I was at Cycle Gear looking for a 630 master link (there's something that's hard to find), the kid who ordered it for me told me he'd found a 530 conversion kit for the bike.  I didn't pay much attention, but next chain and sprocket change...

well, i got the chain on with my "530 coversion sprocket". it lines up just fine. no binding or anything so i will just have to see how it actually functions when the bike is complete. your conversion may be a little different as i am using an f3 motor in a f1 chassis, the f1 has a 530 chain to start so i just needed the front sprocket. i guess the "conversion kit" would have a chain and 2 sprockets. if you do end up changing your chain size with the kit, i would be interested to know how it works out.
