78k rebirth lol time for more build fun
« on: February 20, 2011, 12:59:50 AM »
So I got a 78k, tore it down and went kind of superbike style for a sporty feel. Well not to comfy for me and the wife to cruise around on so a new styles in order. Ill try to figure the photobucket thing out so I dont have to re size all the pics. Here we go, I love builds.  ;D Well trying pics but comps not helping so hopefully tomorrow.

Mockup of tank, fender and seat

Got a sonic cleaner and some simple green. carb on left is after 16min in a 1:1 of simple green and water

Really happy with the carbs. Have to figure out how im mounting the seat. Stock mounts wouldnt work so Ill have to figure something out.

Someone actually responded on my build lol thought it was to fare outside this forum maybe. Insides really clean a little bit of surface rust but not bad for a unfinished tank with no petcock that sat for 30 some years, even still has marker righting from being built. Actually idk what petcock will fit it. Crazy thin is i lost a bid on a tank like that like a week earlier at 125 but i picked up two bikes one with title with the tank for 225 lol. already got like 150 bake from parts. The cleaners the big one at harbor freight with heat. Real happy with it so fare. Think the bike will have a nice look kind of chopper/cruiser. It has alot of sportster influence do to look i like, price of parts and size of parts. Bye the way all my work is done in a small one car garage, with your average weekend mechanic tools, a compressor and a grinder. I have to get creative to do some stuff and i strongly belave in doing as much as i can myself. This should be fun.

So fare I also have a set of finned covers for the bike, bread box filter, working on a oil tank setup, shorty shocks, floor boards and some bars on there way. Have a set of lesters going on to.

I don't even have a garage so I'm jealous of your cramped space. I was going to rent a storage unit to take mine apart but now its my only transportation.
I think your bike is gonna look real sharp. I look forward to seeing how you get it together.

That's going to be an interesting bike.  I look forward to seeing it all together.  Are you going to extend the forks at all?

Idk on the forks have a set that has some rust up top so ill have to see if i can clean them up. once i get some of the parts in ill have to do another mock up to see what i like. kindsa like the low lean look but long forks may fit the build nicely.

Looking good man wish I would have seen that sonic cleaner before I did my carbs with a tooth brush a bits of wire (which fyi is you twist say a strand of 14-16ga it works perfect for chaising passages).

Got the frame most the way striped today and will finish tomorrow and start prime/ painting. spent hours today with paint stripper and have the burns to prove it lol. ill be shooting the bike with the dupli color paint shop paints. I know its not the best but im on the cheap and i want to powder coat and do alot nicer paint down the road so itll be alright for now. better then the rattle can job i did last time. Let the madness begin.
