Sorry for throwing a twin in here but I have a question I am confident you guys will know the answer to.
I bought a 1978 400t1 kick start only barn find bike with no key I have cleaned the carbs but I want to see If she will run before I put time and money into getting her on the road. What is the best way to bypass the keyed ignition?
thank you

Scare up a wiring diagram from an online forum such as Hondatwins.net and learn what the key does - ie 'black-connects-to-yellow' and 'red-connects-to-blue-with-white-stripe' or whatever.

Then, find the electrical connectors nearest the ignition switch (in the headlight shell?) and jumper those connections.

There, you've simulated turning the key on.  Done.
