Tail light
« on: April 02, 2006, 10:02:58 AM »
Mr. Blasty got my curiousity going yesterday.  Anyone know of  a place to get a low profile tail light for a '74 550?  He mad an interesting point that the light can catch wind and affect handling.  i think a low profile tail light would look cool too.  I'd like to find someone that makes a bolt on replacement, but i doubt that's likely-trying to avoid drilling the fender.

Check out --->http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com
They have a 'chopper catalogue" section ,a nd they have a few different taillights.
The "slim cateye" might just be up your alley...

There is a Lucas "reproduction" fender mount tail light/license holder on ebay occasionally and have seen them under the counter at Vicious Cycle and Western Cycle salvage...about $25-30.  I had one on a 750 w/550 rear fender, didn't have to drill new holes, just shortened up the fender by rotating it forward.  Low profile and stylish.

Since you're in Portland, check out Portland Oregon Old Motorcycle Association (POOMA) on Yahoo groups.  MrBlasty turned me onto it and it's a great bunch of local folk to ride with.

Welcome to the neighborhood--Mike

I was looking for a small round tail/brake light that would fit under my CR750 seat/tailpiece.

Found it at Pepboys, "universal light", $8.

Promised myself I wouldn't tell anyone.  :D

I just changed out the taillight on my '75 550 last week. I put on an aftermarket H-D (gasp!) all-in-one unit "Aurora Taillight".  It's the tail and turn lights in one unit.  I think it cleans up the rear end nicely, as I never liked the stock turn signals.

The first pic is kind of dark - late night shot in the garage.

The second pic is my lovely daughter - went for a cruise today, and ended up at the county park for a breather.
