worn points cam follower
« on: March 01, 2011, 04:04:53 PM »
I figured out atleast one of the things wrong with my bike, ...that had been running very well before.. I was ridding along the interstate when I lost allot of the power.. likely 2&3 stopped firing.. though i didnt think to check that at the time (i am learning)

The point for 2&3 is worn to the point where it can no longer be adjusted for proper gap,

My question is, what could have caused this? What should I check to make sure it doesnt happen again assuming it happened at a faster then normal rate (after several search's i found no topics talking about worn followers), and what are the odds it simply wore out of its own (maybe it had been already fairly worn and was adjusted as far as it could go by the previous owner) Whats weird is that the point for 1&4 is fine.. which implies what i just said hopefully

I bought a new set of K&S points (what honda calls OEM now), I hope they work better then the daichii ones i have read about.  And some points cam lube.. everything should be coming in tomorrow.

thanks in advance for any advice

If it were the follower, I would think you'd have the same problem on both sets of points as it's the same lobe that hits both points.  Is the other "good" set close to being to the point where it can't be adjusted?  I have a used follower that you're welcome to as I switched to electronic ignition but I think you just had premature wear on that set.

no it looks fine, with lots of life left in it. maybe the previous owner just replaced the one..  but still as I didnt see mention of the followers wearing before the points themselves I was curious

offtopic.. whats that as your avatar (cobra?), and i am liking the red stripes with the light blue and the dark blue
