Anyone interested in meeting up sometime in early/mid June for a "rally" of sorts in the Deals Gap/Dragon area?
I just found out this past week that my annual pilgrimage to Fontana for "MINI's on the Dragon" (an annual rally of 500ish MINI Coopers the first wknd in May) is not going to happen for me this year. I've gone several years in a row and am really bummed that I can't go. I'd really like to try the area roads on my CB....and REALLY need something to look forward to right now (Talk about a #$%*ty year at work and a long, cold, snowy winter
)....hence the idea.
Proposal:Early/mid June, 2011...have a "meet up" of SOHC.net folks based out of the Fontana Campground (at the base of the mighty Fontana Dam) for a weekend of riding the famous Hwy 129 (Dragon's tail), Hwy 28 (Hellbender), the beautiful Cherohala Skyway (my personal favorite), and other fantastic roads.
I know that June is probably a pretty busy time at Deals Gap for bike/car groups and have not checked to see what other groups may be "taking over" the area....but most of the crowds are on Hwy 129. While it's a challenging and exiting ride/drive, it's not necessarily the best road IMO.
