« on: March 20, 2011, 05:45:52 AM »
Got a question.

I have a 73 CB750 and the blinkers won't blink. I'm sure it's common knowledge to many, so I'm look for a little help.

I appreciate it!

Probably the flasher. Mine was under the left side cover.  By the way, take it with you to auto parts store and you can match the same style connections.  I bought a replacement for less than $5.00 instead of $25 from Honda dealer.  It doesn't look exactly the same, but works fine.

That's what I was thinking. I have the left side cover pulled off, but am not sure what I'm looking for. Can anyone give me a description or a specific location? I also have a couple repair manuals, is the called something other than a flasher? Anything will help...size, color...

GR,

They are also called winkers.  If you still have the original, it's a smallish rectangular metal can, maybe a half-inch bu 3/4 inch.  Connected wires are BLACK and GRAY.

There are a few other things you should check first. Did you replace turn signal bulbs when it stopped working?  If yes, chances are you put in the wrong ones.  Are your electrical connections all clean and tight?  If not, you may be loosing some voltage across bad joints thus reducing the current flow through the winker such that it won't heat up enough to flash.

You may wana replace your winker anyway.  If you do, look for a 3-prong electronic replacement.  You will find an unused GREEN (ground) wire floating behind the stock winker. Connect the green wire to the new flasher's GROUND or (-), the black to BATT or (+) and the gray to LOAD.  An electronic flasher unit with 1/4 inch male blade connectors would slip right in!

As a side note, I'm the 2011 World Tour/Relay coordinator for Michigan and I'm looking for riders in the GR area.  If you and your buddies are looking to ride with fellow SOHC4 riders, send me a PM and I'll fill you in!

Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Frequently dont work unless the engine is running and at over 3,000 rpm
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Thanks everyone for the help. Ran out and picked up a new flasher from NAPA and I now have working blinkers. One of many projects crossed off the list.

What was the part number of the electronic 3 prong replacement you got from NAPA. I like that idea and will do it for my K4.
