What's with this tire size?
« on: April 05, 2011, 01:10:01 AM »
I'm looking at these Shinko tires. The 611 model (first link) and the 718 (second link). The 611 for the front and 718 for the rear. The sizes are listed as (see below links)

MM90-19

MT90-16

What's the deal? I've never seen sizes listed this way before. I'm looking for a 90-90-19 or 100-90-19 for the front and approximately a 130-90-16 for the rear. Can somebody tell me what the above sizes translate into?

The MM90 is roughly equivalent to a 100/90, and the MT90 is closest to a 130/90. Those alpha-numeric sizes are usually found on tires for larger, heavier bikes. BTW, those are tubeless style radials. Probably not the best idea on one of these old flexi-flyers. You'd be much better off with these if you want Shinkos, and they come in the exact sizes you're looking for. http://www.bikebandit.com/shinko-712-motorcycle-tire

Thanks Stu. :) I was looking at the 712s initially, but I thought that the 611s and 718s looked a little more sophisticated.
