Well I guess I'll jump in. I feel sorry for someone who is genuinely unsure of what to get (and hasn't mastered the search function) because there's soooo much debate on oils. I have gone through a few different types and brands of oil in my relatively short riding career and have settled on Castrol Motorcycle Oil
http://www.castrol.com/castrol/sectiongenericarticle.do?categoryId=9022114&contentId=7040925In my area they carry it at Autozone and it's a little cheaper than GTX. It's only available in quarts from what I can tell. The bike runs fine and the clutch and transmission are fine as well. In our Honda manuals it recommends we run 10W40 Mineral oil, and Castrol 4t is just that.
As for Rotella, that is available in gallons (maybe 5 gallons too) and has been recommended to me by a few people who seem to be in the know.
Having traveled across the country on the bike this summer the question of which oil to use came up often due to different regional prominence/availability of different oils. Basically I learned (and this has been oft repeated here) that modern blended oils are not desirable for reasons mentioned above. Rotella kept coming up as a good alternative (and it's cheap). But I'll probably continue to use the Castrol for peace of mind
