Transmission cover oil leak
« on: April 06, 2011, 10:19:09 AM »
Just replaced the gasket on my transmission cover after giving it a lil' polish. Stuck some allen bolts in while I was at it. And now it's leaking a little oil. I cleaned the surfaces pretty good with acetone.. other than tightening it down, is there anything else I should've done? Gasket sealer or something?

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Where abouts is the leak? Did you replace the shifter seal? Last but not least, I had the same issue and it turned out the oil leak was coming down from between the tranny and the stator cover. Sure looked like the tranny gasket. After I got into it I found it was the rubber seal from the stator wires needed some sealer. That took care of it.

Thanks Johnie! Not to hijack this but I have a leak in the stator cover and you may have just solved it for me. Cliff.

Cliff...it drove me nuts. I replaced that dang tranny gasket twice before I got wise to it. Hope it solves yours...

Hi Tugboat,

...did You lost the small rubber button behind the gasket ? If You placed the gasket without this little rubber it will leak.
I never used sealer or other stuff, only a gasket should be ok.

Good luck...Georg
