CB750 stuck cylinder head/block
« on: April 07, 2011, 06:05:02 PM »
This is a first-time rebuild for me (CB750).  The engine dismantle has been going well until now.  I can't separate the cylinder head from the cylinder block.  I have removed 16 nuts, 4 cross-head screws and 2 bolts but the two halves are firmly stuck.  The Haynes manual I am using says there are 5 bolts to remove but I can't find them anywhere (only 2).  What am I missing? I read a similar thread about a CB550 but I never saw a resolution.  If anyone can give assistance I would greatly appreciate it.

Any luck with this?

I'm stuck at the exact same point on my 78 cb550.

I've removed 12 bolts and 2 others according the factory service manual. I see no others, but the cylinder head will not give at all. I swear I could pick up the bike by it.

On the 550 there are 4 black rubber condom looking sealing disks/pucks that when removed will reveal 4 more nuts to loosen.

Got mine apart! I had all the bolts taken care of, but what worked for me was just using a putty knife going around the old gasket until I found a soft spot in the old head gasket and then gently used a flat head and hammer to work the two pieces apart.

The biggest thing I was missing....patience :)
