Can some one help me identify this engine?

I know it is a 2 stroke 49cc engine, should mount on the frame over the rear tire, it says McCollough on it. Was it an aftermarket add on? Any idea on age and how common?

Finally, I found it. It is from a late 70's AMF Roadmaster Moped. 1 h.p., 20 miles per hour max. I knew I have seen the engine before but that was way back in the early 80's back in my home town in Michigan at a neighbors house.

Very nice Jeff, I love the idea of a motorised bicycle, here's a pic of my twin engined mountain bike I built a couple of summers ago. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

I have these listed on Craigslist. I post a lot of stuff for a friend. He is usually too busy to be able to answer Emails and calls so I do it for him. I have 7 or 8 items of his. It took a few hours cuz all I have are the engines. Didn't know what model moped they went on but finally found pics on a Moped forum.

After two hours here at my desk, I had one apart, oiled up, brushed sand out of the crankcase, wire brushed all non-machined surfaces, and freed up the crank. Both were frozen tight when I got them, now I have a real hope at least this first one will run, see about the second tomorrow night. The crank spins freely, there is acceptable compression for a 2 stroke, and the carb is pristine so don't see much else as an obstacle, unless I need a wire connected to the ignition module somehow.
