75 CB750K new Parts N More harness question
« on: April 11, 2011, 11:39:55 PM »
I have a '75 CB750K, and I'm having some trouble with wiring up a new harness that I bought from Parts N More. I've been working with a Clymer wiring diagram on this. From the diagram, it looks like I should have one brown/red wire coming out at the headlight. Instead, I have two. One of them is marked at the headlight end with a white wrapping and what look like black pen marks. I believe the other end of this goes to the fusebox, which also has brown/red wire with black marks on it. I hooked this up to the headlight dimmer switch.

The other brown/red wire is a mystery. I do have a brown/white wire left over at the headlight as well. The diagram shows a brown/white to brown/red connection, though it looks like it should be a soldered internal connection. Am I supposed to loop it around myself? The original harness did come with a brown/red male to male connector for a loop around, but I don't know what it was connected to or if it's supposed to be there. PO did a lot of electrical stuff to hook up a Vetter fairing, so I removed it all thinking that the new harness and diagram would make it all clear.

I've also got a mystery extra solid brown wire...

Any input would be appreciated.

Extra brown wire only used overseas They have some kind of parking light in the bucket for that wire.I will get the print out later for the other stuff.

watching this one.   Having the exact same problem (bike was wired for a fairing)

My harness (which I think to be original) also has an extra brown/white wire.   I think that my harness has the "loop around" connection but it was
from the brown/red to a brown - I think ?

I'll take another look when I get home - I was just messing with it last night but don't really remember.

Was thinking of buying a new parts-n-more harness just to give me some piece of mind.

This may or may not help:  http://www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/Diagrams/CB750k37.jpg

doesn't really address our issue, but it's a little easier to follow than the black and white ones
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Hey greenjeans, did you get a chance to look at that loop around on your harness? Anybody else have this going on?

You know what? I looked at mine again, and I've also got an extra... teal? wire coming out near the coils.

The teal one may be light green -  possibly horn ?

I have an extra brown wire.

I have a brown/red wire that has a short male/male wire (only 1.5" - looks factory)  that connects to a brown white - same as you describe.

seems strange - but so far everything is working

Excellent! Thanks for the reply. Only thing to do now is put some oil in and fire it up. I'll let you know how it goes.

Okay, all the electrical stuff is working. Instrument lights, brake lights, turn signals, starter. No spark though. I'll have to do some forum searching and some multimetering... I tried to duplicate a strange splice that the PO had made for the electronic ignition unit, which could be the culprit.
