Topic: aftermarket kickstands

I have been searching and searching but cannot find a universal replacement kickstand. I dont want the ugly bracket or stock kickstand on the frame. I was looking for something that wouldnt maybe clamp onto the lower frame so I could position it where i want, but have not had any luck. Has anyone seen something like this, or made one of their own? I was thinking of making my own clamp and scavaging what I can off the old set up to make one.

Ah! this is almost perfect. thanks! Ill get this and reweld the bracket to have a clamp on the end. I only worry about it slipping around the bar from the weight, but there is only one way to find out. Thanks again.

Why not weld this one to the frame?

The frame is painted and motor installed already. I know, not very bright. But I was certain I saw a clamp on verson of a kickstand on a photo somewhere here.  I suppose I could if it came to it. But I like the idea of being able to adjust it.

My BSA had a clamp-on kick stand, and no matter how hard I tightened the bolts, it would rotate if any real pressure was put on it. If you make your own clamp, make it very sturdy, spreading the load over a large area of the frame tube, using 4 clamping bolts.

Yeah, i was going to try and model it after a set of nice highway pegs I have. Four allen head bolts with grooves on the bore, and the bore slightly smaller than the frame tube, so I can torque that bad boy right down. Only worries me because, the bike is kickstart only. Hell, even the stock kickstands I have are bent a bit.

Are you going to cut the old stand bracket off?

Virtually no clamp or modified clamp will hold that leverage. i'd drill it and the frame and peg it in place with bolts. 2 should do it. Though drilling the frame is not as preferable as welding, the whole thing is a compromise.

  I was worried someone might say that. 2 bolts sounds good though. Some nice grade 8's maybe? Yes I already cut off the old bracket. That stand is impossible to put on without scratching the paint SOMEWHERE. I think Ill just go ahead and weld it. Dont want the bike falling over on me after all this work. Thanks for the help guys, Ill post back up when I get the part in and on the bike.
