We've been to St. Kilda, so I think we'll try to get a little farther out. I'll try the heater for longer if it cools down this weekend.

Franskton or Sandringham line trains stop at many stations that are within walking distance of a beach.

Ended up taking a train to Geelong then busing to Torquay. I wanted to go to the Rip Curl pro comp at Bells beach, but the shuttle from Torquay to Bells was packed. I think they could only fit about 15 people on each shuttle and there were about 200 people waiting. Torquay was nice and looked like a good place to surf. I'll have to get a board.

I made my first drunk chicken here yesterday. I still haven't gotten a bbq so I had to do it in the oven, but it was still good! At the bottle shop I asked the lady what the cheapest can of beer was because I needed one for cooking. She was showing me all the different ones when I saw a can of Carlton Light and grabbed it. She said, "Oh, that's light beer!" like it doesn't count as beer at all. I got a kick out of that. I told her it didn't matter because it was just going up a chickens arse and she gave me a strange look. Anyway, this is how you do it: Make a dry rub for your chicken. (for this one I used lemon, roasted garlic, and oregano) Rub your chicken. Drink about half of the can of beer you have chosen. I've found that the quality of the beer has no affect on the taste of the chicken, so I usually use the cheapest beer I can handle drinking half of. Now you should be about here. (I also squeezed half a lemon over the chicken after the rub, and the other half into the beer)

If using oven, set the temp at 190c. Place the beer can in the center of the pan then slide the chicken down over the can. Usually I have no problem with the chicken standing up on it's own. If you do, use toothpicks or skewers to hold it up.

All that's left is sticking it in the oven, and letting it cook for about an hour and a half. When it's done, pull it out, carve, and eat. The drippings in the pan are also a good start to making your own gravy.

Impressive chook!

So - does the beer in the can evaporate through the chicken?

I've seen pics of a girl doing that Pete, I wonder if she was the same one? Anyway....... That's a good looking chook you've got there Adam, hurry up and get that BBQ mate, Cliff and I are hanging out for some "Intoxicated Poultry". (Cliff, bring some snags just in case it tastes like schidt) Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Sure thing - and I will bring some "Three Ravens" beer too, that makes everything taste (and look) good.

Yup, the beer in the can evaporrates through the chicken. It makes the meat nice and moist. Hopefully we'll get a bbq soon and get to meet some of you. I think I may get a canvas tent for a bike shop. It's even something I could get home on a tram.

Well, I talked the wife into letting me get a shed. We won't be able to get it for about 2 more weeks, but I think it's gonna happen. I just have to sell the shed after I get the bike together. I have no problem with that. I'll just get a cover for the bike. ;D

Good news!

My 9.6 square meter shed cost me around $500 new, delivered in a big cardboard box of parts.

It is sitting on concrete and I ran a bead of silicon around the base to keep the water out.

Yep, that is good news Adam, a shed is way more secure than a tent, and if you pop-rivet it together you just need to drill them out when you want to pull it apart again. Don't buy a bike cover either, I've got several here. Cheers, Terry. ;D

You are too kind Terry! I may have spoken too soon on the shed. My wife found a greenhouse that's waterproof yada yada... ::) We'll see how it ends up. I do think that this weekend will be when we purchase whatever it is I can get. I'm also going Friday to take my forklift test. I've driven lifts for about 8 years in the US and found that they're paid pretty well here. Hopefully I don't blow it when I take the test. I've been reading up on the test here. I have to get down all the kg and meter measurements.

On a more important note... Does anyone know a good website to watch sports for free? We finally have internet at the house now (still no tv), and I'd like to watch the footy today. I think we've decided that Essendon will be our team since they're pretty much our area. Don't worry, we've already been taught the ABC rule (anyone but collingwood). ;D

No worries Adam, a greenhouse isn't a bad idea, weatherproof, plenty of natural light and a few degrees warmer than outside in winter, your wife's idea? Claim it as your own mate!

Just lock your tools inside, there are arseholes everywhere. My company car was broken into overnight, some dick smashed the passenger side window and stole my GPS and a few other things out of the console and glovebox.

Nothing much of value, just a pain in the arse as I had to ring my boss and let him know, call the cops and make a report, then tomorrow I'll have to drive my own car to work, contact the insurance company and make a claim, organise the repairs, blah blah blah.

I've been parking this car in the same spot for 5 years with no problems and some ferret came along and almost ruined my ANZAC day. I say "almost" because I still had the day off work, which was still great. Cheers, Terry. ;D

G'day mates! I recon I'm getting the lingo down. The tomato tomato thing doesn't fly with me though. I feel like a twat if I change the way I say it. Same with basil. I've been learning heaps by talking to locals at the pub though. I wish I would have gone to the pub to watch the footy yesterday. I listened on the radio and it was a hell of a match. Too bad the magpie pulled it out in the end. Terry, sucks to hear someone broke into your car. I hate that #$%*. Some people have no respect. Good on ya keeping a good head about it. Back to studying up for my test tomorrow, and reading The Hunger Games. I got sucked in after watching the movie now I'm almost half way through the third book.

Well done with the lingo Adam, not perfect yet, but you're getting there, ha ha! Not having TV must be a PITA, I have Foxtel (cable) in 3 rooms including my bedroom, and it's great on a miserable day (like yesterday) when I don't wanna play in my garage.

Still, you're only walking distance from the pub, so I suppose it's not a biggie? Well done on your fork test prep, don't forget all your pre-start checks, most of my guys wouldn't know anything about pre-checks, God knows how they got their licenses! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I passed the forklift test without any problems. Started applying for jobs. Bought a greenhouse and set it up. It'll be a bit tight but I'll make it work. I'll post some pics when my wife gets home with the laptop unless I figure out how to post them from my phone.

One of my new favorite downunder words is yayayayayayaya - meaning yeah. Heard that a bunch when I visited Palau. It was fine when the gorgeous 6' tall blond Aussie dive master used it but it got kinda annoying when 3 or 4 mates got together drinking  ;)
