Front Disc Brake Rotor For Comstar Wheel On 77' CB550K
« on: April 12, 2006, 08:39:07 PM »

I'm trying to get a pair of Comstar wheels lined out on my 77' CB550K Project and the problem
right now is, the rotor is too close to the fork leg. I've heard of another Honda rotor that will work
but, I don't remember which one. I'm not sure about the sprocket line up because the engine is
apart at the present time. If I get to the rear wheel and the sprocket situation before I get the
engine ready(which I probably will), then I have a 500 engine I can hang it there to use for the line
up of the sprockets. I am only assembling the bike to check the fit and alignment anyway (for now)
If anyone has input on these things I've mentioned, feel free to jump in at any time. I have a 78'
CB550K that I'm going to build with Spoke wheels but, I want Comstars on the 77'. Later on, Bill

Did you try the 550 rotor?   Maybe it has less of a dish.   Might have to redrill holes if everything else checks out.
Did you get that tank?

The disc on the CB650 Comstar wheel has 5 mount holes and the 450,500 & 550 has 6
holes. I was thinking that I had seen, on this site, someone who talked about using the rotor
from a CB200T or something like that. I know that someone, on this site, has put Comstars on
either a CB500 or 550 (both the same) and I sure could use some input. I'd hate to think that
I'd have to redrill the mount holes but, I guess we'll see. The disc needs to be flatter than the
         650 disc.

No, I took another look at the photo that showed the tank from the rear, after what you
said, and realized that it was pretty wide at the rear. I like the teardrop shape from the side
but, it would need to be tapered more from front to the rear and that one wasn't.

Oh well, the search continues on. Thanks for your response and I'm glad you brought
that out about that tank. If it hadn't been for you, I might have ended up with a gas tank
that would end up sitting on a shelf.

Later on Terry,      Bill :) ;)

Thanks Terry, I may do that and I may need to get with you on the rotor thing also.
I'll probably PM you early next week about that and the rotor deal. Catch you later, Bill

And for the record guys, My comstars are the black ones on of a 79' (I think) CB650.
I knew of 2 different kinds myself. My CB400F has a silver set with what look like actual spokes.
So, that being said, now does anyone know of a brake rotor that is more shallow than a CB650
rotor and is mounted with 5 bolts?
