I'm Winging it! 1980 GL1100i
« on: April 25, 2011, 06:33:11 AM »
I picked this one up this weekend.  I stopped for gas on my 360 and as usually happens, somebody comes over to talk about how they had something similar years ago.  We talk for a few and I tell him I am looking for a larger project bike preferably a 550-4 or 750-4.  He says he has a Goldwing in his garage in good shape.  I go look at it and the overall eyeball condition is very good.  Bags, trunk, fairing, windshield are all good.  Engine is clean.  You can tell the bike has not been abused and it has been garage kept.  He says he can let it go for $600.  I take it.  None of the brakes work and the tank is rusty.  The bike runs with a squirt of gas.

I took the calipers apart last night and it looks like they will only need seals.  Pistons are pristine.

It is still an SOHC-4....  ;D

Here are a few pics.

For $600, you scored big time. Have fun with that project, and avoid the temptation to become a chromosexual!  ;D

Thanks.  Chrome does nothing for me.  I'd sooner have a bike blacked-out than full of bling.

I was thinking of possibly going the other way and making it naked.  Although my wife says she will get on this one.  So.....it will probably stay an Interstate.

Keep it bagger, you and the ole lady will enjoy it.  If you do not already have one, get the trunk with a back pad - what ever came with it.  She will love ya for it.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I have one almost just like that one,but it took me two engines to get on the road. I got it just for my wife and I to ride. I use now whenever I need to run to the store, can hold quite a bit in the bags and trunk.
