Hi, I have an early 1975 CB550 which was a complete bike but the motor was missing. I found a CB550E-1118811 motor that guy had which he had sitting on a shelf in like-new condition. The motor has only 7485 miles (and 1/4" of dust) on it because the motorcycle was rear-ended and the good parts were pulled and saved. I'm new to the Honda 70's era bikes and was trying to figure if the engine came from a CB550 or CB550F? Are the motors universal- just different serial numbers, similar to GM Chevy/Pontiac? Being that the 550 and 550F both have CB550E motors in them I believe they are the same? The only info I could find on-line dated the motor as a '75 550F or a '76 550. Are there any visible identifying characteristics which differentiate the two motors apart? I have an old '65 305 and the numbers and dates are clear as mud when it comes to that bike.
