Differences between Clymer and Honda shop manuals?
« on: May 03, 2011, 01:43:13 PM »

Bike and manuals are 74 cb350F

I noticed that the valve adjustment directions in Clymer is different from the Honda Shop manual I downloaded.

The Clymer manual says to put the number 1 cylinder at TDC on compression stroke and adjust 1 and 4, then TDCC for 2 and 3 and adjust.

The Honda Shop manual says to put at TDC on compression and adjust 1 and 3 on intake and then 1 and 2 on exhaust.  Then rotate one turn till 4 is on TDC compression and adjust intake 2 and 4 and exhaust 3 and 4.

Why is there a difference in the procedure from one resource to the next?

The bike is running strong having done it the Honda shop manual way but I don't want to screw anything up.

Also, I'm getting ready to adjust the valves on a 76 cb750 and don't want to screw up the procedure.

Thanks for any insight.

Clymer Manuals in general are pretty poor, though in all fairness I'd have to say they leave out more than they get wrong.

one was put out  to help professional wrenchers.  lots more detail.
the other was put out so the shade-tree mech could do the same. (think 'cliff notes')
i read clymer while i'm on the $hitter.
i follow the shop manual when i'm in the shop.
