750K5 handlebar center width
« on: May 08, 2011, 01:41:33 PM »
I bought these:

http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=2135

because they showed up in the list of available parts for my bike. The center is too narrow for my brackets. The curve upward is too close, which means the brackets don't sit right on the bar... a bit of space at the bottom.

I don't have them in front of me, so it's possible that they sent me the wrong ones. I'll have to measure the center. Should a 4.75" center width bar fit this bike?

I just measured mine (K2) and the idiot dash/clamp measures 120mm and that's about 4.75" by my reckoning....- so the minimum I'd look for in the centre on your new bars would be say 120mm - MINIMUM. I have new bars - non-standard and the centre measures about 150mm.

I'll have to try fitting them again. Every site selling bars seems to think that 4.75" center will do it. Maybe the ones I got were incorrectly bent or mislabeled. The package did say they have excellent "quality CONTOL", so maybe that should be a clue.

Well, what if they don't quite fit in the clamp? Probably about 1/4" of space between the bottom clamp and the bar. Will I be destroyed if I try to use these bars?

Well - far from ideal. But the test for me would be clamping them down and seeing if there is ANY sense of wiggle or play in them...if firm..I'd use them and monitor them..
