Wheels and tires for CB750 Café Racer…
« on: April 19, 2006, 08:39:47 am »
Hey Guys!  Working on a ’74 CB750 Café racer.  I plan to modify the engine a bit for some more power, but nothing ridiculous.  I’d like to stick with the stock hubs and spokes.  What is the largest rim and tire I can use with the stock frame / swingarm (and what will match up well for the front).  I think I remember seeing a larger wheel can be used with the chain guard off, and I don’t have a problem with that!  Also I plan to paint the rims so an unfinished rim would be ok.  Isn’t there an Italian wheel co that works with the CB stuff?

Thanks!

Many cafe people put 16" Harley rims on the rear.  They're 40 spoke, just like the CB & there's alot of short spoke kits out there specifically for this purpose.  I would do a search here on "rear tires" to find out exactly how large you can go before running into trouble - there's been a million threads on it.

Hope this helps,
Jay in Philly

I liked the stance and wheels/tires used on Benjie's Black Whale when I saw it on ebay last year:

I emailed him to see what sizes he used but did not hear back from him yet...

I plan on running a 130 tire on the back of my scoot.
User PAULAGES,  among others have ran this tire on a 16'' rear wheel
with no rubbing/clearance issues.

That benji rear tire looks to be "meatter" than a 130....

cool duster!  I'm still in a "part gathering" mode for my cafe.  I'll have to snap some pics of my current frame and moch-up....

ok I'm going to mock up my rear hub and engine to see how large I can go with the stock set up.  These bikes used 530 chains right?  Anyone switch to 520s?
