Hi There, I have a need to replace the steering cone (race), dust seal and washer on my 1971 BC750.

How do you remove this. It looks pressed on but I am not sure.

Can any of the experts out there help with the correct method. thanks  Craig

Search the forums, there's several threads about this.
The preferred method seems to be score the race with a Dremel tool or a file and give it a careful whack with a chisel to break the ring.

Oh, this is for the stem race.

On my '78 CB750, I was able to drive the upper one out with a long piece of threaded rod and a sledgehammer. On the bottom race I think I got most of the way there, destroyed a few pieces of threaded rod in the process, then did the nick-and-remove technique.

When I replaced the steering stem bearings on my F-model front end, I had to heat a small area of the inner race on the steering stem until it was red hot. Then I beat that spot with the ball end of a ball pen hammer to stretch the race out. Then I just garbed the race with some large pliers and worked it off.

If you are near my shop I have the proper tool.. takes a few minute, leaves no marks, and rubber and washer is reuseable.
