I know there were a lot of guys looking to buy these before Christmas when they sold out. Anyway, I had been waiting awhile for him to restock them, looks like they just went back up. I just ordered a kit...heck, for that price, I was tempted to order two! Depending on the quality when I receive it I might order his 466 kit as well....

Did anybody install this kit from the first batch that sold? If so, how was the quality?

I think I remember a few people here bought that kit. Hopefully, they'll chime in with their experiences. I'm definitely interested and itching to pull the trigger on a set.

I looked for the old thread too, as I had posted in it. I know it was in the eBay forum, but that only goes back 3 pages now. I'm hoping someone who bought one chimes in. Estimated delivery date for mine was June 13th - 24th.

i got a cheap piston kit for a cb350 once and the pistons had exclusions in the casting...

What kind of power increase do you get with a kit like that? Any put any serious miles on one?

I have a 750 motor and carbs that I want to get into this winter and that seems like a great price.

As a heads up, when the seller had them last time, I just missed out as he sold out before I had a chance to buy a set. It took him about 7 or 8 months to restock this time around...

Still waiting for someone to chime in who has installed a set...

Thanks for posting that!! I'd been waiting too, and sending/receiving emails from him, but after the tsunami, kinda figgered he'd be delayed even more. Buy 'em up...help Japan gert back on it's feet!! Yeah, I remember Terry said he bought (at least) one, said the quality looked good, but don't remember hearing if he built one or not..

I'm guessing all those who had purchased them aren't replying because they probably died when these welded themselves to the cylinder sleeves, locked up the rear tire and got shot off the road.

Hmm...just for reference, if you do ever feel your bike (any bike) start to have a motor seize, you might want to pull in the clutch so your back wheel doesn't lock up..

Fair point, in all likelihood it would probably be a very slow and gentle slowing and jamming of pistons from speed but with pistons this cheap they've got to risk your safety some bit to justify those types of rock bottom prices. Speaking of pulling in the clutch, my weekend warrior roommate forgot to pull it in at any sign of trouble the first time he got on this season and his throttle got stuck halfway open resulting in him spinning a burnout through our yard and the bike dumping fuel and oil all over the grass. >:l

I purchased his carb rebuild kits. They worked out great and a set of 4 were $44. He is good to deal with and shipping was perty darn quick. I ordered from him right and I mean right after the tsunami!

I would order from him again.

I wouldn't be afraid of these a bit. These aren't big HP high compression machines. Cheap pistons should hold up fine. Besides, cheap piston now are surly as good as factory piston 40 years ago, and they're are loads of bike still running with those OE pistons and rods.

Well its been tested and proven on almost everything else. I'm sure its not much different on pistons.

I have consistently found that new, cheap parts are much worse than the OE stuff.

Just going off my experience.

I guess we will have to wait till someone chimes in that has used this stuff.

I installed a set on a gently-used bike last year. I think it has about 500 miles on it now. Be sure to use the clearance of 0.0010" to 0.0012" wit those pistons, as they do not have the micro-groove skirts like some 836 kits.

If nothing else is done but boring and installing these type of 836 pistons, the typical HP increase is about 8. If you follow all the steps in my book, like valve work, port work, quench band, spark curve change, and final carb tuning with stock airbox (NOT pods), you can get 12 HP from the installation. If you also add a mild cam like the K0 cam, this can add 2 HP more to that figure. If you go much further than that, like a Webcam 41 or something, you might wish to consider stronger rods as you nudge toward 80 HP. MRieck can install larger intake valves for you, too, which can push it to a 90 HP and require that you think about something other than a stock spoked rear wheel.

I've bought four sets of pistons from this guy (or the factory he buys from). One is a 466 set that is currently being run. Another is a 350f set that I sold to another forum member. Another is a 350f set that is installed in my next cafe bike build (and the machine shop that looked them over when boring the jugs commented that they were very good quality), and the fourth set is another 466 set that I'm putting in my spare 400f engine. The quality is consistent, he is quick to respond if you happen to need another set of rings, and the shipping is surprisingly quick!

I highly recommend this seller for the 466 kits. The 350f kits I was talking about were bought through CMSNL, but are from the same factory that he gets his 466 kits.

Thanks for the testimonial...Any other changes to the 400f other than the 466 kit? Notice any big power improvements? I'm thinking about ordering a set right now as well and just putting them on the shelf until I rebuild my 400f engine.
